Metro School Instructional Bell Schedule is 8:00am to 3:00pm
All persons dropping students off or picking students up must have proper picture identification and be authorized to pick up/drop off the specific student(s). When in doubt, an administrator must be contacted to verify transportation authorization to assure student safety at all times.
Parking Procedures: Van/car parking is in the back of the school. Parent/Visitor handicap parking spaces are provided nearest to the back door. Staff needing handicap parking will park in the staff spaces marked at the end of the visitor’s row nearest the parking garage. You will need to display the handicapped parking decal in order to park in these spaces. Staff will enter through the door near the Red Rover clock using your CMS badge.
Early Arrivals: Students may not be dropped off at school before 7:30am. Parents, guardians, or drivers arriving with students before 7:30am will be requested to remain with and supervise the student(s).
Late Arrivals: Students arriving after 8:00am, other than by CMS provided transportation, are considered to be late and must be signed in at the Main Office. Students are considered absent for the day if arrival is after 11:00am.
Dismissal: Students are dismissed at 3:00pm. No students may be dismissed to the buses, cars or vans until that time. If students arrive at the bus, car or van before the driver or monitor is there, DO NOT PUT THE STUDENTS ON AND DO NOT LEAVE THE STUDENTS UNATTENDED. All classrooms and support staff must help with getting students to the buses, cars or vans. Students may not be dismissed between the hours of 2:30 and 3:00pm.
Parents, guardians, caregivers and drivers wishing to pick the student(s) up prior to 2:30pm from the classroom must show proper ID to the staff member in the Main Office and sign the student out. The student will be brought to the Main Office by staff. Students will not be dismissed between the hours of 2:30 and 3:00 pm.
Also, is it important to know who has legal guardianship of the child! Make sure you have written permission from the legal guardian before you speak with anyone other than the legal guardian regarding our students. Even in the case of group homes. A lot of our students are in group homes, AFL homes and other placements, but the parent still has legal custody or is the legal guardian, so the parent/legal guardian should be informed of any issue first.
BECOME FAMILIAR WITH THE GOOGLE DOC USED TO LOG IN BUSES, VANS, AND CARS. At 3:00pm dismissal, car and van rider students are escorted by teachers or instructional assistants to the back door lobby and supervised by staff until the child's ride arrives. Substitute teachers cannot assist with escorting/monitoring students to the back door during dismissal. Do not leave students unattended. You are responsible for the safety of students. Car and van riders must “sign out” with staff at the back door by indicating to the checker they are leaving with the student. Staff assigned as “van checkers” verify their van roster to ensure all students are onboard before the van leaves the lot (Google doc). Bus riders are escorted to their assigned bus parked on the lot at the front of the school. Staff are to remain with their student(s) until van and bus staff properly receive the student(s). Staff assigned as “bus checkers” verify their bus roster to ensure all students are onboard before the bus leaves the lot.
No students are to be detained after 3:00pm to wait for their parents/guardians to pick them up. If the parents/guardians are not at school by 3:00pm, the student will be escorted to the Main Office and will then be transported to the normal delivery point unless alternate arrangements have been made in advance, in writing, as well as approved by an administrator. There will be no exceptions to this rule.
