Everyone is expected to maintain a professional appearance with the understanding that parents, Board of Education members, members of CMS Executive Staff (including the Superintendent), etc. could drop in at any time. This means we all must dress in a professional manner that presents an image of dignity and authority; what you wear, how you act, and what you say all represent CMS and Metro School. In addition, students notice what we wear or what may be “visible”. In a casual work setting, staff may wear clothing that is comfortable and practical for work, but must maintain an overall “head to toe” appearance that is not distracting or offensive to others.
Professional jeans are acceptable due to the nature of our work. Jeans cannot have rips, “shreds” or printing that reduces the professionalism of the appearance.
T-shirts must also be professional in appearance. Any clothing that has words, terms, or pictures that may be offensive to others is unacceptable.
Professional appearance also includes hats/scarves, particularly during the cold weather season. If you need to wear hats/head scarves/ball caps outside, please do so; however, remove them when entering the building.
Sweatpants are NOT allowed.
Pants/leggings that are too tight, skirts/shorts too short, etc. should not be worn.
Staff should wear “closed toe” shoes to prevent injuries.
Clothing that has the CMS or Metro School logo is encouraged. Special Olympics shirts and shirts with University names/logos are also encouraged.
Please know that you will be asked to change clothing if necessary.
● It is a good idea for all staff to have an "emergency" change of clothes here, including shoes. Due to the needs of our students, it is not uncommon for clothes to get dirty, wet or stained. Having a change of clothing here can save you from wearing soiled clothes all day. It will not be acceptable to let staff leave to go home to change clothing, so have a change of clothes on hand at school.
