Proper feeding training will be given to all staff by the OT on an annual basis. All staff are required to read, know and understand and apply the feeding strategies. When in doubt ask an OT or nurse.
● Tube feeding requires a doctor's order and training by the nurse.
● No parents of volunteers can assist in feeding students!
This year at Metro School, in partnership with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMS), and Mecklenburg County Public Health, Atrium Health’s Meaningful Medicine program will support CMS students at Title I schools. The program works in collaboration with nursing staff at each school, who coordinate care and referrals. School-based virtual care (telehealth) will be available to all scholars and staff.
The new virtual care clinic at Metro, located in the Isolation Room, aims to unite the best innovations within health care, social impact and workforce development to directly target health equity and economic mobility goals within Charlotte. With improved access to health care, the clinic will help mitigate disease progression, reduce missed class days due to illness and optimize access to primary care and other community resources.
Utilizing innovative technologies and digital diagnostics, the clinic will offer a variety of services, including: evaluation and treatment of common medical concerns; point of care testing and sample collection, such as strep throat testing, COVID testing, etc.; forward electronically prescribed medications to a pharmacy that’s convenient to the patient; handle care coordination and support for patients to establish or reconnect with a medical site; coordinate follow-up appointments with primary care providers; and, connecting students and families to a host of community resources through Atrium Health’s Community Resource Hub – from food pantries to housing and financial assistance needs.
How much does it cost?
100% Covered by Medicaid
Depending on the insurance plan, patients would be responsible for copays and deductibles for these services
Uninsured: Financial Assistance

The health room is to be used for health purposes only. The following guideline is to be used for sending students to the health room. Any exceptions to these guidelines must be cleared through an administrator or school nurse.
1. Any student coming to the health room must be accompanied by an adult. Enter through the “A hallway” door.
2. No student can be left unattended and unobserved in the health room.
3. The health room is to be used for temporary use for sick students. If a student is sick enough to require more time in the health room, then a parent or guardian may be notified to pick the student up. Only the nurse or administration can send a student home due to illness, behavior or other needs. If a staff member feels a student needs to go home before dismissal, this must be discussed and approved by an administrator.
4. Many contagious or infectious diseases have beginning signs and symptoms similar to the common cold, flu, Covid, RSV, etc. Students with nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or a fever over 100 degrees or who are obviously ill, may need to be sent home by the nurse or an administrator depending on circumstances.
5. If the student is diagnosed with having a communicable disease, the nurse MUST be consulted. The guidelines for Mecklenburg County Health Department will be followed regarding all communicable and contagious diseases.
6. Staff members must wear gloves when handling human waste/fluid products. This will be provided by the school.
7. All CMS employees are required to participate in the annual Bloodborne Pathogens Training and Hazardous Communication Training.
