The Great Outdoors
A pillar of a Notties education is our commitment to outdoor learning and the vital life skills it fosters. Following the recent Grade 3 trip to Zingela and the Grade 5 journey to Baynesfield, this week saw unbridled excitement as our Grade 2s and 4s boarded buses for Shongweni and Nyala Pans.
The stories told on their return are already becoming "the stuff of legend." I was particularly touched by a conversation with a group of Grade 4s who declared rubber-tubing the highlight of their trip. When I inquired if the water wasn't freezing, the reply was immediate: "Yes it was, but you told us to be brave and try everything!" These trips cultivate a bravery and growth that simply cannot be taught within four walls. I am deeply grateful for a staff and parent body that sees the immense value in these adventures.
Dinner with the Headmaster
Continuing with tradition, Mrs. Brown and I had the pleasure of hosting Grade 3, 4 and 5 girls for dinner this week. The conversation oscillated delightfully from favourite animals to the arrival of a Notties winter.
These meals are a wonderful opportunity to refine table manners and social etiquette in a relaxed, "homely" setting, essential preparation for the next steps in their journeys toward high school. I wish to commend all the girls on their manners and their proactive willingness to clear the table; it is lovely to see such poise and respect in our young ladies.
Skills on the Pitch
Well done to our Grade 1 and 2 boys for their fantastic performances in the Mini Soccer festival held here at Clifton this week. It was pleasing to see our youngest sportsmen playing with such joy in so beautiful a setting. Beyond the tackles and goals, it was heartening to watch the children learn the art of hosting: showing respect on and off the pitch and conducting themselves with distinction. This grounding is the start of a sporting journey that we hope will bring years of camaraderie.
The Magic of the Stage
Our Grade 7 children and staff have been working with immense dedication as they prepare for their upcoming production. The energy behind the scenes is electric, and the hours of rehearsals are beginning to bear fruit.
To our young performers, remember the words of Oscar Wilde: "I love acting. It is so much more real than life."
The Arts provide a unique stage for children to find their voices, build confidence, and learn the power of collaboration. We are all eagerly anticipating opening night!
