Our Junior and Senior Primary chess players have enjoyed another rewarding term of strategic thinking, problem-solving and friendly competition. Weekly coaching sessions have helped children develop their understanding of the game while building valuable skills such as concentration, patience, resilience, and critical thinking.
Our Cross Country season has been one for the records, as we have enjoyed the perfect weather at each training session and fixture. There was much disappointment when we had to pull out of our first Inter-schools race, at Laddsworth, due to many of our runners suffering from a nasty bout of the flu. We were so pleased to hear that a few of our healthy team members managed to convince their parents to get them to the start line!
What a fantastic term it has been at Clifton Equestrian Centre!
Our riders have flourished this term, learning so much more than just how to ride. Through every lesson, competition, and challenge, they have developed perseverance, patience, commitment, resilience, sportsmanship, and the ability to handle disappointment with grace. These are life lessons that extend far beyond the saddle and are all part of what makes our riders true Champions of Childhood.
Our Grade 1 and 2 girls embraced mini hockey this term with an abundance of energy and enthusiasm. We attended several festivals, hosted by Howick, Cowan House (on the St Anne’s astro), Clifton, and Carlyle, and it was truly wonderful to see the significant progress the girls made with every game. Building a love for sport is paramount at this age, and the smiles and giggles from the sidelines confirmed we're achieving just that.
The Grade 1 and Grade 2 boys enjoyed an exciting and rewarding Mini Soccer season filled with learning, development and plenty of opportunities to play.
Throughout the term, training sessions focused on developing the fundamental skills of the game. The boys worked on dribbling, passing, ball control, shooting, defending, spatial awareness and teamwork.

Rugby Season Review: Growth, Grit, and Great Memories
What an incredible season the rugby boys have had! Looking back over the past few months, this season will be remembered not just for the matches played, but for the immense character, fun, and camaraderie shared by everyone involved.
It has been a very busy and exciting term for our squash players. Our U11 and U13 boys and girls have participated in numerous KZN tournaments this term as they worked towards qualifying for the KZN teams. From January to May, monthly tournaments were organised by KZN Squash as part of the selection process for the Interprovincial Tournament (IPT), which takes place in June.
Grit and Determination
What a weekend of hockey it has been! From the first whistle early Saturday morning to the final match played under the lights in the rain, our girls displayed incredible resilience. Despite the long hours and aching legs, the team dug deep until the very end and played exceptionally well.
Our Holiday Fun Pony Camp was a fantastic success, with a great group of riders joining us for two fun-filled days at the stables.
The children got stuck into all aspects of pony life — from mucking out and learning stable management, to enjoying scenic outrides around our beautiful school. Of course, plenty of time was spent in the saddle, and it was so special to see the children grinning from ear to ear while riding their ponies.
Our boys headed to Johannesburg with high spirits and nervous energy for the annual St John’s Easter Rugby Festival. The tour kicked off on Thursday, 2 April, with two physically taxing fixtures that tested the squad’s resolve. These matches became a proving ground, allowing the boys to sharpen their skills and adapt their teamwork under pressure.
