Trip to El Olam: 3 - 5 June

On Thursday the 4  June, the trip count down was finally over and it was time for our second overnight camp of the year! We headed for the hills of Eston, where the incredible El Olam team of facilitators were waiting for us. The children were split into groups and the games began. A brief refuel with snack was had before we headed to the pond, nets and buckets in hand. The children loved catching crabs, frogs, tadpoles and shrimps in their pairs.

After lunch, mud dominated the menu, with the obstacle course. They worked hard in their teams, to make sure that their friends got through each activity. It was wonderful to see the empathy shown as hands were held and encouragement was given. The drizzle wasn’t enough to clean the mud off, so they headed for the showers. The children loved the indoor games and were ready for a delicious ‘mac and cheese’ before bedtime stories were told around the impressive bonfire. A relatively good night’s sleep was had by all, before the sunrise walk to see the action at the sugar cane fields. A hearty breakfast was enjoyed, before putting their archery skills to the test. Working with a bow and arrow was a first for many, as they aimed for the super c targets!

We headed back to school, hearts full and bodies exhausted. Now the count down for our trip in term 4, can begin!
