Grade 7 Art Tour Outing - 17 June
The Grade 7 Art outing kicked off at a local sculptor’s studio - Sarah Richards. We were warmly welcomed to her home and split into three groups to be shown the process of making bronze sculptures. The boys and girls were given the opportunity to see some of her impressive life - size creations, touch and feel the materials and ask lots of questions about the processes involved.
From here we carried on a little further down the road to Ardmore museum, workshop and gallery. The tour included the background and history of Ardmore, the ceramic making process, and eyeballing some of the enormous prices in the gallery! This included a mind boggling 2.5 million rand chandelier! We were fortunate enough to have THE Fee Halstead herself, the owner and founder of Ardmore, show us around. This is a memory our children will cherish forever, as we were able to hear the stories from the person who was there from the very beginning.
Upon our return to school, we gathered in the Garden of Remembrance to view the beautiful sculpture created especially for us by Sarah Richard. Mr Quinn shared a moving address on the poignant history behind this masterpiece. We are incredibly fortunate that our boys and girls can experience such profound art and heritage right on our doorstep in the Midlands.
