Technology Electives

Digital Technologies (DIT)

Students will be introduced to a variety of coding languages and digital systems. They will learn how data is collected and compressed and analyse existing digital systems such as websites and interactive products. They will work in a range of collaborative situations to design basic algorithms and create digital systems and products. They will build and program a variety of robots and gain an understanding of coding and problem solving using digital solutions.

Food Technology (Semester 1) (FTA)

This elective extends the skills and knowledge from Year 8 and focuses on food experiences. It is based around practical work, planning and cooking meals, menu planning, exploring nutrients, food types and diet trends.  FTA examines the attributes of a healthy person and how to attain good health through nutrition. 

Note: User pay materials will be used to enhance the curriculum at a cost of $70* for the Semester. An event will be created with the cost, once the subject selection has been completed and parents will receive a notification on COMPASS to complete payment. *This amount may change by 10-15% each Semester as it is dependent on price rises by external suppliers.

Food Technology (Semester 2) (FTB)

Students wishing to do 2 electives of Technology can request this elective in addition to FTA. FTB explores foods from different countries, the history of food in Australia and the major influences on our diet. We examine the food habits and customs of various regions of the world including the United Kingdom, Europe, the Middle East, the Americas and Asia; and prepare a variety of meals/dishes. The focus is on practical work, planning and cooking meals, menu planning and food preparation.

Materials Technology: Wood A (Semester 1) (WDA)

Students design and construct a moderate-sized household furnishing. Common furniture joints will be employed and attention given to the enhancement of product appeal by attention to shaping, finish or decoration. Some woodturning may be involved in this project. Students are able to work and progress in wood joinery and construction, tool safety, technical drawings and design briefs. Students will gain confidence, skills and knowledge whilst working in a safe working environment. Students will research the properties of the materials used, such as the timber shrinkage or the aesthetic qualities such as grain pattern and colour.

Materials Technology: Wood B (Semester 2) (WDB)

To further extend their skills and knowledge, students wishing to do two electives of Wood may request this elective, in addition to WDA.
