Architectural Drawing and Interior Design (ARD)

In this subject, students learn to accurately draw a built environment and develop knowledge of the technical drawing methods used in architecture and interior design. They design their ‘dream home’, learn about Post Modern architecture and develop their ability to work to a design brief. Students use technical drawing skills, rendering and a range of industry recognised computer software to accurately represent their architectural constructions.

Note: User pay materials will be used to enhance the curriculum at a cost of $20 for the Semester. An event will be created with the cost, once the subject selection has been completed and parents will receive a notification on COMPASS to complete payment.

Drama (DRA)

Year 9 Drama extends skills learnt in Year 7 and 8 Drama and introduces students to an exciting taste of what can be explored and achieved in VCE Drama. During the semester students have the opportunity to apply skills in a range of production areas such as lighting and costume, to a contemporary play in which they have the opportunity to perform for a live audience. Students are also introduced to a selection of performance styles, which is key knowledge for VCE Drama.

Assessment is based on participation, performance and a set written task. 

Media Studies (MED)

Students explore the magic of media through animation and photography. They will explore the skills of composition and storytelling to create their own Photoshop creations and Media products. Students will also explore a variety of film styles and tell their own stories through the broad medium of stop motion animation.

Music Performance (MUS)

This subject is recommended for those who are part of the Instrumental Music Program or those that are learning/ can play an instrument/ sing.

This elective is a creative, hands-on subject that involves combining both practical and theoretical elements to develop a student's skills on their instrument. This includes developing and performing a solo performance program, working in a group/ band context and extending knowledge by writing their own composition. In addition, students build their musicianship knowledge, which will lead the individual into VCE Music should they choose.

*Students who wish to take Music Performance need to have some basic skills on their instrument or be willing to sing.

Studio Art 2D (A2D)

This elective is a practical, creative subject, which explores two-dimensional art including drawing, painting, collage, printmaking and mixed media. Students will learn about the art elements and principles, including colour, line, shape, texture, pattern and form and apply them to their own artworks. They will look at contemporary art, which may include street art, fashion illustration and pop art movements.

Studio Art 3D (A3D)

This elective is a practical, creative subject, which explores three-dimensional art, focusing primarily on ceramics and sculpture. Students will be introduced to construction techniques in a range of materials and various approaches to glazing and decorating their artwork. They will explore both functional and creative artworks. They will also look at contemporary artwork and Asian artwork and be introduced to the Art Industry.

Visual Communication and Design (VCD)

Students use both computer software and technical drawing skills to work on a range of design briefs. They will explore how the use of the design elements impacts visual messages and how visual designers target their messages to specific audiences - for example in advertising, signage and company logos. Type is introduced as a design component and students develop key knowledge and skills in typographic conventions. Students continue to develop and analyse their work through the use of a visual diary to create and construct a range of finished products using the design process.
