English Electives

English as an Additional Language (EAL)

Students whose first language is not English are offered English as an Additional Language (EAL). This elective subject, designed to support students from non-English speaking backgrounds, is additional to Core English and runs for two semesters (taking two of six elective allocations). Students receive additional support for their English subject studies, working to extend their existing verbal and written skills.

English Engagement (ENB)

This unit offers support for students needing to improve skills in reading, writing, listening and speaking, finding information and understanding spelling rules and grammatical structures.

Literature (ENX)

This unit extends writing skills in a variety of styles. Through discussions and the exploration of texts, students work towards developing their understanding of what makes quality writing and how this can be achieved. Students are assessed across a range of writing styles: expository, persuasive, creative and imaginative.
