On this page are the Year 1-2 flashcards for the delivery of Units 1 to 8 for Teachers as Co-Learners (TCL) program, Catholic Education Languages, Victoria.
Flashcards are organised in units and each unit has a unit index card containing all language items for the unit and the English translation. All language recycled throughout multiple units will appear in a lighter colour. Check each unit’s index card for retrieval language, appearing in between brackets, e.g. (2) for ‘Unit 2’, in order to locate and organise your flashcards for each week. For ease of reference, all units where language can be located will be listed on the flashcard. At the top of each flashcard is a reference to units where the flashcard is used.
Each card represents a ‘chunk’ of language and is a companion to the unit sentence builders included in the TCL lessons. Each language item flashcard includes: visual representation with written text underneath (standard set) + visual representation with no written text (image only). To create these flashcards, print the pdf file as an A4 double sided colour document, you will have the standard flashcard on one side and the image only on the other.

Choralling with flashcards: Teacher or Language Assistant shows a flashcard
(standard set) and says the word or phrase (language ‘chunk’), students repeat three times.
Variations: Teacher or Language Assistant shows a flashcard (image only) to prompt students’ oral language retrieval. Students can also lead the choralling.
Mind reader: Teacher or Language Assistant chooses a card and asks student to guess it by ‘reading’ their mind. This prompts students’ oral production.

of the room, teacher says the word or phrase (language ‘chunk’).
Students move to the flashcard or point to where it is displayed.
