My idea for my black and white painting was to make a tiger's face with his paw on this rock to look like he was climbing over the rock. I got this idea because we had to find an animal that represents me and I thought of a tiger. The process was long. I started painting it with white then turning it into a grey that I think matches the picture but I did the method where I did the outer of the face first then worked my way in. When I think the color that I put down for a side looks good I start putting the tiger's black stripe then go more into the face and repeat the process again. Once I got done with the face color and the strips I started outlining and painting the tiger eyes, nose, and mouth. With the eyes I had to make sure I was making them round like they were looking at you. Once I got done with the face I started working on the rock. First I made the rock colors similar to the tiger so I decided to make the colors darker for the tiger and the rock to be separate. Then I wanted to make the tigers paw like he was climbing up the rock so I matched the colors to how the tigers face colors were. The artwork means “Tiger coming for you” and I want the audience to think of a tiger they have seen but in black and white. The most difficult part was the eyes and I fixed that part by using a small paint brush and going small. The thing that I would change if I restarted is that I would try to make the tiger look more circle shape and the ears with an ear shape. Thai painting is a surreal painting because of how it challenges the color in a tiger to black and white. This isn’t unique to my own style but I still think they are cute animals. I love how I came up with the idea of the rock and paw.
