Starting in their freshman year with the Here to Career class, students make a graduation plan. This plan is based on graduation requirements, aptitude and interest for their career path. Students are kept on their graduation path by their teachers and counselors. Teachers and counselors are required by policy to council students and notify parents once they start to fail a class. Teachers are also obligated to remediate or incorporate tier 2 or 3 interventions.
As a whole, Catoosa County high schools have a data room. In the data room, each student is tracked for progress on a data board. This data board is a visual representation of a student’s grades for a semester. Each Tuesday, teachers are required to manipulate the student’s to show current progress based off of grades. If any trends appear, the students can be reviewed by a data team. The students then can be referred for additional interventions.
High schools also has flex block scheduling. The middle part of the school day (lunch period) is a one hour flex class. During flex class (study hall) students can receive additional help in the form of tier interventions or enrichment activities.
