The Criminal Justice program at the Catoosa County College and Career Academy is open to juniors and seniors from all three Catoosa County high schools. Their enrollment in the program is based on both interests and aptitude. As Freshmen, all students take the YouSceince Career Aptitude Assessment to identify best-fit pathways that align with their desired career. Students create a high school graduation plan and post-secondary plan. Using the information in those plans, students are then able to register for courses. Existing students register for classes beginning in February.
Our school counselor meets regularly with students to discuss "Criminal Justice" pathway benefits. Our counselor attends CTAE pathway workshops and training to remain up to date with post-graduation opportunities that are associated with the pathway. Our CEO also assist with coordination of visitors to the classroom from industry associated with various career opportunities.
Each year prior to registration, rising juniors tour CCA. After the tours, there is a Parent Night where CCA pathways are presented, and our counselor is available to answer questions about our pathways. County eighth graders also tour CCA as part of their high school registration to view CTAE programs.
The Criminal Justice program is promoted at each high school. Each year we set up exhibits for registration and pass out brochures outlining the pathway. The CCA Criminal Justice program is also promoted through our Here to Career classes, school counselors,, school website, and a promotional video.
