Catoosa County high schools have Here to Career classes. This class is required for all freshmen and is a graduation requirement. The idea behind this class is for students to leave Catoosa County schools at graduation with a plan for success.
Here to Career starts out with students taking the You Science test in the first week of class. The results show students specific careers that reflect their aptitude and/or interest. From the list of careers, students will then do research to better understand what the careers consist of and the process for obtaining that career. Students will then look at CTAE offerings that closely align to the career(s). The student will then receive help with scheduling.
Once aptitudes and interest careers have been identified, the student is assisted in making a career portfolio. The career portfolio consists of You Science results, high school graduation plan and post-secondary plan. Students are then taught about resumes, cover letters and job applications which also become part of the career portfolio. The career portfolio is basically a google site which they have access to at any time during their high school career and afterwards. The Here to Career curriculum also consists of guest speakers, a tour of the CTAE classes, and level 1 of the Georgia Best program.
Catoosa County CTAE courses pick up where the Here to Career classes leave off. Once a student starts level 1, and as they continue through the pathway, they are required to keep their resume updated. In each level of CTAE pathways, students are assigned a career project. If needed, post-secondary plans are adjusted. Catoosa County CTAE also participates in the Georgia Best program. As students progress through the pathways they complete levels 2,3, and 4 of Georgia Best.
