Respond: Re-imagine the present if an event in the past had not happened. How do you think Canada might be different today if the Act of the Union had not happened? Use the points of view on page 232 and 233 to generate some scenarios.
Tasks:
- Read through the information you created in the Venn diagram comparing Upper and Lower Canada during 1837 and 1838.
- Next create a chart of how the First Nations, Canadiens and Loyalists were all affected by the Act of the Union.
- Using the Venn diagram and the chart you created of how the First Nations, Canadiens and Loyalists were affected by the Act of the Union and the information found on page 232 and 233, rewrite how you think history might be different if the Act of the Union had not taken place by creating a scenario of what could have taken place. Remember to include:
- the people who are involved
- the events leading up to the scenario
- how the people felt
- what happened because of this scenario
