Chapter 7 and 8 Project

As Canada began to develop as a nation, it became apparent that a more democratic system was needed in order to create a country that was self-reliant, healthy and prosperous. Not wanting to depend on Britain for guidance, people began to talk about Confederation.

Through this project, you and your political party will look at the historical facts of how Confederation was developed, while developing your own political platform to help you gain voter confidence.

It is important to keep in mind that you will be developing your party based on the events that took place in the 1800's.

1. The class will be broken into groups of 4 that will be political parties.
2. Develop Platform
   • Based on the historical information presented in class, your team will create a political party. Your party will work to complete all the tasks listed below. Each person will have a different task to complete the project. Parties will be randomly awarded....Class dojo style.
3. Prepare a Leadership Speech
   • The the leader and the vice leader will prepare a leader speech. See further instructions on the document "Leader Speech" document under "Evidence"
4. Plan and Produce Advertising Material
   • Your team will be creating an advertisement based on their platform, debate material and what they would like to do if they were voted.
5. Commercial
   • Your team will be creating an advertisement based on their platform, debate material and what they would like to do if they were voted.
6. Vote
   • We are going to vote on which candidate we would like to have as our leader.
