Option 2: Full Layout Cover Page with Parts Layout and Dimensions
Directions:
1. Choose one of the following assemblies or choose a part from a textbook (Must be approved by Mr. Jourden).
2. Design each part
a. Helically cut each thread on the part
b. Be sure when assembly to line threads up
3. Layout
a. Create a Cover Page
Decide what type of views and/or notes need to be on the cover page. For Example
1. Assembled Isometric
2. Exploded Isometric
3. Exploded Orthographic
4. Sectioned Isometric
5. Orthographic Assembly
6. Partial Assembly Sections
7. Shop Notes
8. BOM Chart
a. State sizes of threads and type of feature in either the Part Name or make a column called Remarks and list there
b. Part Layouts with Dimensions
(NOTE: If a student chooses a model from the book they may not be required to do a full part layout w/dimensions)
Thread Cutting:
1. External Threads: Design a Cylinder the size of the major dia. Of the thread and then cut threads.
2. Internal Threads: Drill a hole that represents the minor dia. Of the threaded feature. To calculate minor dia. Use the following formula
Minor Dia. = Major Dia. – (1.3/Threads per Inch)
3. To find sizes of Hex Bolt, Hex Nuts, or other standard features (see above) use the Drafting and Design Textbook Reference Section (starting on page 838) or Machinery Handbook 29th Edition.
