Virtual learning communities (VLCs) are groups of people who gather to learn together online or via social media. They enable learners of all ages to gather both synchronously (at the same time) and asynchronously to pose questions, discuss, share ideas, solutions, opportunities, and to create things together. They enable people to connect locally and extend their networks far beyond their local area. They grow engagement and ownership of learning.
You can form VLCs on Pinterest, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, via Wikis, via closed proprietary platforms, via Learning Management Systems (LMSs) and Learning Relationship Management Systems (LRMs). At BPS Workplace is our primary virtual learning community.
