Science
Overview
All students will study Biology, Chemistry and Physics in lessons.
We offer two pathways for the science GCSEs: Combined Science and Separate Sciences (both with Higher and Foundation tiers).
All students study the same content throughout year 9. Towards the end of year 9, based on exam data, in class assessments and teacher recommendation, we will make final pathway decisions.
Separate Sciences
Students will achieve 3 GCSEs, one in each science discipline.
Combined science
Students will achieve 2 GCSEs and are examined on biology, chemistry and physics content.

Assessments
Both the Separate Science and Combined Science pathways are 100% examination based. These exams will take place at the end of year 11.

Foundation tier grades 1-5
There are 2 papers per subject:
Combined - 1hr 15mins
Separate Science - 1hr 45mins
Every student is required to complete a series of Required Practicals - which focus on both investigative and analytical skills linked to key scientific ideas.

How many GCSEs do you get from taking science?
Combined science students will gain 2 GCSEs whilst separate science students will gain 3 GCSEs
Can I pick and choose which sciences I will take?
No, everyone has to study biology, chemistry and physics, you can't drop one because you don't like it
Should I follow separate science if it is offered to me?
Separate sciences should only be considered by those who aspire to a career in science, are very passionate about it and have an excellent work ethic.
Who will be offered Separate sciences?
Your teacher will be looking at students' attitude to learning, home learning and work ethic etc throughout Year 9.
