RE Core
Overview
RE Core aims to ensure students develop an understanding of different religions, beliefs and world views and how these might impact on our everyday lives. Students will engage with a variety of religious and non-religious views, current ethical issues and big philosophical questions. This provides an opportunity to sharpen critical thinking and evaluative skills, to consider their own attitudes towards wider world issues and prepare for life in an increasingly diverse and global society.
Topics covered
Students will cover a range of topics building up to key questions, including the following:
Is religion changing and will it survive?
Is it true that where there is authority there is no freedom?
Without God, is anything allowable?
Do you have to be religious to believe in life after death?
Why are some people atheists?
Whose responsibility is the environment?
Should man interfere with nature?
Can we ever achieve peace?
Assessments
This is a non-examined course. Students will take part in some assessed pieces of work to gauge understanding of the topics covered and assess key skills.
