This is a single option course and is split into 4 units:
· Working in the built environment
· Construction methods and materials
· Maintenance, repair and refurbishment of buildings
· Using tools to construct and maintain buildings
There is an external exam on all 4 units which you must pass to achieve a Level 2 qualification. This exam will be sat in Year 10.
In Year 11 you will complete a Synoptic Assessment which will involve you applying your knowledge, understanding and skills in decision making to solve problems and achieve given outcomes independently and confidently.

Skills you will develop on the course:
You will have an understanding of how the construction and built environment industry is structured and how individuals work together to plan and deliver projects. This will enable you to establish who needs to be involved in specific tasks within construction projects, what they will do and when.
You will have an understanding of the methods used to construct buildings and why certain materials are used instead of others in the construction and maintenance of buildings.
You will learn the need for maintenance and repair of buildings, the differences between maintenance, repair and refurbishment and recommend actions needed for these as part of a construction project.
You will gain basic skills in plumbing, bricklaying, carpentry, joinery, painting and decorating and electrics. You will have an understanding of Health and Safety when working on construction projects and the importance of tools and their uses.
Further study and career opportunities
After completing this qualification you could move onto a related level 2/3 qualification in your chosen area or start an Apprenticeship in the construction industry. You might like the idea of becoming a site manager or going into architecture, this course will be a good base to start.

You could undertake a range of GCSE’s or vocational qualifications alongside Construction including GCSE Business Studies or GCSE Photography. It will entirely depend upon your personal interests and skill set.
