What we'll be learning in this class goes by a number of names. Some call it Mechanical Drafting, Mechanical Drawing, or just "Drafting" but for the sake of this course we will be studying "Technical Drafting" as it encompasses Mechanical CAD Drafting, Manufacturing, Industrial & Engineering Systems, and Architecture. There are a lot of tools and skills involved.
The first few chapters of your textbook will outline the basics. Take special note of how individuals might get a start in the industry of Technical Drafting and how folks work together as a team once they are hired. As you get to know the tools of the trade, take note of the precision required to be a technical draftsman.
If it seems overwhelming, don't panic. We'll be taking things one small step at a time and, before you know it, you'll be processing numbers and doing geometry in your head without even realizing it. There's some hard work involved but nothing you can't handle with practice.
Please note: the first half of this class will involve hand drawing and drafting. The computers will come into play later. If you have any questions for Mr. Bishoff he can be reached at erik.bishoff@bethel.k12.or.us.
