TO DO: Complete the assignment below. A "paper" version is available below:
The Pioneer Woman is a blog run by a woman in Oklahoma. She sometimes blogs about her passion for photography and shares tips for photo editing. She also hosts photo-editing contests for her readers. In this particular contest she invited folks to digitally edit a photo of her family's dog, Charlie, and submit it online.
TO DO: Visit the "Pioneer Woman" blog and read through her "Edit THIS!" assignment.
(Do not complete steps 2 through 4 on her website. Instead, follow the instructions below)From The Pioneer Woman:
I have uploaded the high resolution version of this photo of my very strange dog Charlie. Feel free to download the high-res version and fiddle with [in Photoshop] it however you wish!
It’ll be fun to see everyone’s different take on the same photo!
(remember you have to click the "download" arrow at the top right of the screen once the image loads)
Images are 5 points each. Three total. If you do extra images I will grade the three "best." Feel free to turn in more than three.
Grading will be based on technical craft and ability to follow instructions (edges of cut-out Charlie are clean and images are sized and named appropriately) as well as creativity.
DETAILS/INSTRUCTIONS
1. Watch Mr. Bishoff demo this project in class and take notes.
2. Click the button below to download the high-res photo of the Pioneer Woman's dog Charlie.
3. Visit my website and find the “Charlie” lesson. Download the high-res photo of the Pioneer Woman's dog Charlie.
4. Edit the “Charlie” photo in Photoshop however you’d like, using whatever edits or actions you’d like to use. Do this three times for three distinctly different images. (if you’d like samples of how some Charlie images were done, visit my website and follow the links at the bottom of the lesson page) Remember to use LARGE images found in Google Images.
5. Size the completed images so the long side is 10” (oriented portrait _or_ landscape) and save as a .jpg file. File > Save As > JPEG
6. Use the standard naming convention of ClassPeriod_ProjectName&Sequence_LastFirstName.jpg. If I was a student in 2nd period my files would be named:
7. Upload the completed CAREFULLY edited images of Charlie to the assignment page of your google classroom.
8. NOTE: Your images MAY be shared with the rest of the class.
9. Once you are done with three images of Charlie you may move on to making other creations using the tools and techniques you just learned. Be creative and have fun with it!
This assignment requires that you complete THREE “Charlie” images, named appropriately and uploaded to google classroom. (15 points)
TO DO:
Make three "fun" images with Charlie and turn them in as outlined above. Or, make two images with Charlie and a third with another character/person/object/thing.
Once you are done with three images of Charlie you may move on to making other creations using the tools and techniques you just learned. If you do extra work I will grade the three best and discard the "less successful" extras.
Be creative. These don't have to be images using JUST Charlie. They can be of Charlie and anything you want that is classroom appropriate.
(images should be sized to fit an 8.5 x 11 sheet (10" at the long-edge) and exported as .jpg files as you did with the Spot Color project.)
I’ll go through the submissions and pull out some great ones that stand out.

Consider the following as you view the sample images of Charlie the dog.
What are some different editing techinques that you see?
Which photos are meant to look artistic? Which ones are meant to be funny?
Which photos look "real" and which don't? Why?
Some people digitally edit photos as a hobby or as a from of art. Sharing your work online with other people also ma make people feel they are part of a community. Or, in the words of The Pioneer Woman herself, "It'll be fun to see everyone different take on the same photo!"
