For this project you will be taking multiple images and piecing them together, like a puzzle, to create a composite image.
You will start creating your own composite image outside today to get familiar with the process and the tools. You are encouraged to work on another space or portrait this weekend as well. We will have all of next week to complete the project.
When you are done you will turn your completed jpeg files in through google classroom. Don't forget to fill out the hand written self-evaluation and project completion form.
If you need help, just ask!
During class we will experiment with creating some quick mini-joiners. After watching the video we will go out onto campus and snap some images of a venue or object to be pieced together in class. This is a quick project, maybe 30-50 images, that we will piece together in class. Later we will do a MEGGA-JOINER which is something you can do yourself at home using your smartphone, personal camera, or borrowed classroom camera. Consider adjusting the image size to "small jpg" so you don't bog down the computer with huge images. (be sure to change the setting back to large JPG when you are done)
Create a photomontage that demonstrates passage of time, different perspectives or a 3D object inspired by David Hockney's Joiners. You must take at least 50 photographs to complete this assignment. In most cases, though, you will need to take more than 50 photographs.
The photomontage will be pieced together using Photoshop. You will use LAYERS, MOVE TOOL, and RESIZE to make the photomontage. You will use your creative decision making skills to decide how to put the image together. Do the images line up or not? Do the images overlap or not? Save your project as a photoshop (psd) file and a jpeg file. You need the psd file for Assignment #2. (see sample images and "PART TWO" below)
The finished photomontage must have some sort of a uniform border to frame the work.
IMPORTANT STEPS:
IN THE CAMERA SETTINGS CHANGE THE IMAGE SIZE TO "S2"
Menu Button
Shooting Settings
Image Quality - S2
Stand in one place and zoom in to capture images as if you are turning your surroundings into a puzzle.
Save your file as a PSD so all layers are intact. You will need this for part two of the assignment.
Save you file as a JPEG to turn it in
RETURN CAMERA TO LARGE IMAGE QUALITY.
SPACE BAR = HAND TOOL
COMMAND-TAB = SWITCHES BETWEEN PHOTOSHOP AND THE FINDER
EXPORT IMAGES FROM LIGHTROOM AT 1600 PIXELS WIDE
Using your photomontage from Assignment #1, create a visually enhanced or altered image using the filter tools in Photoshop. See instructions below on how to use filters. Choose at least half of the photos and experiment with many of the filters. Your goal is to make the photomontage look more like a painting or a drawing.
The finished photomontage must have a uniform white border to frame the work.
IF YOU DIDN'T COMPLETE THE "FIVE SIMPLE ENHANCEMENTS" PROJECT WAS DUE LAST WEEK. (DON'T FORGET THE SELF EVALUATION & PROJECT COMPLETION FORM)
THREE IMAGES PER PAGE (BEFORE, PROFESSIONAL, AND FUN) FOR ALL FIVE EDITS
WHAT IS A CAMERA READING AND WORKSHEET: (DUE LAST WEEK)

LET'S GIVE LIGHTROOM ANOTHER TRY. THIS TIME, DON'T WORRY ABOUT SHOOTING AT "S2" IN THE CAMERA. (IF YOU ALREADY DID THAT IS A-OKAY)
BE SURE TO CHANGE YOUR CAMERAS BACK TO "L-SMOOTH"
