• Open the photo you took of your face in Photoshop. Crop your image to 8” x 10” at 200 ppi. You want to crop in close so the top of your head almost touches the top of the image area, and your chin almost touches the bottom of the image area.
• On the main menu, go to View > Rulers. This will make rulers run on the top and left side of your image.
• Now create a grid over your photo by pulling guide lines from the side and top ruler. Use the selection (black arrow) tool to place your guides. Place at least 2 guides vertically and 2 guides horizontally to create 9 sections over your face.
NOTE: NINE SECTIONS, NOT SIX AS PICTURED IN MOST OF THE SAMPLES HERE
• Now open or go to your layers palette. Duplicate the background layer so that you have a clean copy of your face to work with. Hide the background layer by clicking on the “eye” next to the image.
• Find the rectangle marquee tool in your tool box (it looks like a rectangle made of dots.) Marquee one section inside the rules. Go to Edit > Copy. Now go to Edit > Paste. A much faster way to do this is to hit Command X and Command V on your keyboard. When you do this, a new layer is created with just that section of your face. Repeat this step by returning to the full face layer, cutting and pasting a section at a time until you have separate layers for each section of your face.
• Now select one of the face section layers. Go to the main menu and select Filter > Filter Gallery. This brings up a panel that shows you many different options for manipulating your layer. You can also adjust color and image quality by adding adjustment layers to each section.
• Finally, export your image to a .JPG file (in JPG not PHOTOSHOP format) and upload it to google classroom.
