Physical Activity

PHYSICAL ACTIVITY

Ballyhass National School promotes and encourages physical activity. Each class has two outdoor breaks daily (weather permitting). If the weather is unsuitable classes are encouraged to do short physical activity breaks indoors such as Go Noodle and Bizzy Breaks. We encourage the children to keep active as much as possible during breaks so therefore we encourage them to walk even when they are talking to their friends, ' Do Your Talking as You're Walking'.

The Active Committee have been very busy so far getting involved in making all the children aware of our ‘Active Code’ using the letters  BALLYHASS:

We have trained senior pupils as playground leaders to encourage activity on the yard.

National Spring Clean :

4th to 6th Class did great work cleaning around our school in the National Spring Clean.

We completed the Run around Europe Challenge !!!

SInce september, we have been working towards the challenge of running the distance from Dublin to Paris. Each class colours in a stone on our chart once they have ran 10 laps of the school yard. We really enjoyed this challenge and our teachers are noticing an improvement in our fitness already ! Well done to Mrs Quinns 1st/2nd class who won this challenge by running the most laps !!

Seachtain na Gaeilge :

For Seachtain na Gaeilge, we did lots of Irish dancing and the children really enjoyed it!

10@ 10 :

On Monday the 22nd of January, we started the 10 @ 10 as part of the Operation Transformation initiative to get active while having fun. We are doing this every morning at 10 o’clock for 10 minutes. We stop what we are doing and get active by following the videos. It is great fun!

Fitness before Christmas!!

For the month of December we completed the 12 days of Fitness. We had great fun doing this every morning adding on a new exercise each day while singing the song. On the day of the Christmas Holidays we all performed the song in the Hall with 12 different exercises.

Spooky Stroll around School and Halloween Disco:

For Halloween, we began the day with a spooky stroll around the school yard dressed up in our costumes . In the afternoon we had great fun showing off all our dance moves in our Halloween Disco!!

Wake up! Shake up!

Every Monday and Friday morning we complete exercises in the morning before going to our classrooms. We do different exercises each week and our Active School Movement Monitors show us the different exercises each week. At the end of the month our movement monitors decide on a line of the month and they then get to do PE homework instead of written homework that night.

Run around Europe:

Since September, we have been working towards the challenge of running the distance from Dublin to Paris. Each class colours in a stone on our chart once they have ran 10 laps of the school yard. We really enjoy this challenge and our teachers are noticing an improvement in our fitness already!

Busy Breaks / Wet Breaks :

We really enjoy GONOODLE and 10@10 or Joe Wicks Youtube workouts when we are taking a break from our hard work in the classroom or when it is too wet to go outside!
