Background, Middle-ground, Foreground

In visual arts, the concepts of foreground, middle-ground, and background refer to different layers within a composition. These terms are commonly used to describe the arrangement of elements and the sense of depth in a painting or a photograph. The students began by drawing the foreground in the lower 3rd of the page. Next, they drew the middle ground on the center page.  Now the students began to integrate their middle-ground drawing and how they relate to the foreground drawing. Finally, they drew the background on the top of the final paper.
