D. with S. (Destination with Sisters)

My exhibition is based on patterns, pictures and locations. In most of my pieces I took a picture, placed it over a pattern and ”doodled” a shape or silhouette with relation to where the picture was taken. The first artwork I developed on the other hand, I replicated the picture then added the patterns straight on them.

All except one of my artworks carry a picture of one of my sisters, with the exception of ”D1”which is a destination I visited with my sisters. One of my inspirations is Sofia Bonati who focuses on a combination of portraits of young females and patterns surrounding females in most if not all of her works. During the development of this exhibition I had begun with the initial intentions of doing my original works as a physical copy but after making my first work I noticed that the picture for the virtual presentation did not do justice to the artwork. After that I decided to make a digital work since it can be adapted to any virtual exhibition and replicated as a physical copy of any size as well.

All of my artworks have one thing in common and that is the relationship of the character portrayed in the work. The Characters are my sister, and the final picture is just an image of a place called la Parguera in Puerto Rico which I once visited with them as mentioned previously. The reason I decided to use the images of my sisters was because throughout our life we have been told that we carry the same eyes and no physical aspects other than that. During the production of my exhibition I changed my initial intention which was that every picture would be inspired by Sofia Bonatis inspiration but after having 3 artworks done I decided to change the theme and create a contradicting pop art theme. Two of these artworks I edited to fit the contradicting pop art theme. In order for the audience to know the connection between these characters they must infer that they are somehow related to each other. Other than inferring that we are related, the pieces don't express the relationship between the 3 individuals. I did this because in the real world people have never identified that we are sisters until we are next to each other Or verbally inform them. This is also the reason why I name the exhibition “D. With S.” Which stands for destination with sister.
