COMMON COURSE DESCRIPTION
A foundation studio course exploring drawing with emphasis on descriptive, expressive and conceptual approaches. Students will learn to see and interpret a variety of subjects while using diverse materials and techniques. Course work will facilitate a dialogue in which students will engage in critical analysis and begin to develop their understanding of drawing as a discipline.
COURSE RATIONALE
The purpose of Drawing I is to provide each student with specific drawing media experiences and to build basic perceptual skills in terms of drawing from studio set-ups. The student will also gain basic knowledge of the elements of art: line, value, shape/volume, texture and color to lead to their deliberate manipulation for different types of spatial illusion, compositions, and expressive meaning.

About me
Hello! My name is Courtney Cone (you can call me Courtney), and my pronouns are she/her. I'm your instructor for Drawing I (ARTS-1316) and I look forward to meeting you all!
I was born & raised in San Antonio, and currently live in Austin TX. My BFA is in Painting (from Texas State University), and I received my MFA in Art from California Institute of the Arts (CalArts) in Valencia, CA. I'm an interdisciplinary artist and work with video & performance art, painting, sculpture and ceramics. I've taught a variety of classes- drawing, ceramics, art foundations, digital studio and expanded media (time-based media). I started teaching Art & Design classes in fall 2017 and I've been at ACC since spring 2018.
