New Student Checklist
Learning, Literacies and Technologies, PhD
Congratulations on your recent admission to the PhD in Learning, Literacies and Technologies at Arizona State University. Please follow the steps and links below to enroll and register for your courses. Please contact your academic advisor at doctoraleducation@asu.edu with questions.
Step 1: Activate your ASU Student Account (MyASU and ASURITE)
Once you receive your official notification from ASU Graduate Education to activate your ASURITE User ID, please click here,
Step 2: Set up your ASU Student Email
Email will be the primary means of communication (ASU Email Policy). It is required that you use and check your ASU Email on a daily basis. Click here for ASU Student Email Instructions including how to make sure your email is forwarding properly.
CHECK ASU EMAIL DAILY - even before courses begin, you will receive information from your instructors and advisor via email.
Step 3: Verify Immunizations
Complete immunization paperwork. See your MyASU page under Priority Tasks for more information.
If you fail to submit proof of 2 MMR immunizations or a blood test showing immunity to Rubella, you will NOT be able to register for classes
The MMR vaccine is available for a fee at any of ASU's health services locations.
If you are having difficulty finding a physician to provide you with the MMR (only pediatricians typically keep the vaccine on hand), please call your local university or community college. They may be able to assist you.
Step 4: Register for Classes
PhD Learning, Literacies and Technologies Program (you will find a list of your fall classes at this site)
Log in to MyASU to register for classes. When searching for a course to add, please use the class number, which is a unique 5 digit identifier. You will notice that we have several classes that use the same omnibus course code DCI 691 or DCI 791, which is why it is important to pay attention to the class number when registering
Step 5: Enroll in, or Decline, Health Insurance Coverage

In order to receive this benefit, students must sign in at My ASU (http://asu.edu/myasu). Under Campus Services, click on Health Insurance, then click Enroll/Cancel Student Health Insurance. If you need a policy to cover you between now and August 15, click on Bridge to view Bridge policy info.
Step 6: Explore/Apply for Financial Aid
It is best to contact financial aid directly. Your academic advisor does not have the best, most up to date information related to financial issues.

Step 7: Pay Tuition and Fees
View payment deadlines at https://students.asu.edu/tuitiondeadlines
If your tuition is funded by ASU (in the form of an assistantship or scholarship, etc., you will see a payment(s) post to your account around mid-August. Until then, you may see a 'balance due'; this is OK.
Step 8: Purchase Text Books
Go online to https://www.bkstr.com/arizonastatestore/home
Search for the course you registered for (some courses may not have required textbooks) or click the Books link in the My Classes area on MyASU
Consider other sources for textbooks, such as Amazon or eBay or Chegg.
Step 9: Familiarize yourself with the Student Resources

Step 10: Attend the Mandatory New Doctoral Student Orientation.
Where: Alumni Room, Memorial Union
When: Friday, August 18, 2023.
Begin your doctoral studies by logging into MyASU!
Under the "My Classes" tab, you will see the courses in which you are enrolled.
When the course is "Open" it will be underlined.
Click on that course and it will bring you into the actual course for you to begin.
