This non-degree sequence of graduate courses is offered to meet the requirements of the Special Education Mild/Moderate Endorsement. ADE requires certified teachers to have three years of full-time teaching experience for this endorsement - please see the ADE information for full description of requirements: ADE Mild/Moderate SPE Endorsement Requirements.
You must currently have a full-time Early Childhood, Elementary, Middle Grades, Secondary, Hearing Impaired, Visually Impaired, Early Childhood Special Education, or Moderate/Severe Disabilities Certificate to pursue this endorsement. You will use this work setting to complete the practicum courses (i.e., SPE 583).
Required Coursework (15 credits) - Please adjust credits in SPE 583 to ensure that ALL courses total 15 credits
TEL 517 Creating Equitable Learning Environments: Decision-making and Action (3 cr)
SPE 558 Special Education Foundations: Law, IEP’s, Assessment and Ethical Practice (3 cr)
SPE 583 Special Education Endorsement Practicum (1-3 credit, repeatable)- Only offered in Fall and Spring semesters
SPE 513 Instruction and Assessment for Learners with Exceptionalities I (3 cr) - Only offered Spring semesters
SPE 502 SPE Language and Communication Methods and Assessment (2 cr) - Only offered in Fall semesters
SPE 583 Special Education Endorsement Practicum (1-3 credit, repeatable) - Only offered in Fall and Spring semesters
Note: SPE 558 and TEL 517 will meet the provisional requirements for the endorsement. SPE 513 and SPE 502 complete the sequence to meet the requirements for the full endorsement. The courses can be taken over two or more semesters, with SPE 583 taken during each semester for the practicum hours. Students need to be sure to adjust the credit hours on SPE 583, depending upon how many times they plan to take it in order to meet the practicum hours. A total of 45 hours or more must be documented throughout the sequence to meet ADE’s full endorsement requirements, with a minimum of 15 practicum hours for the provisional endorsement.
Students may complete this program of study without being formally admitted to a degree program. Instead, students may apply for non-degree graduate student admission by submitting the application for graduate admission.

Please note that federal financial aid is not available for non-degree students.
Students may start the program at the beginning of any semester. All courses are online and 100% asynchronous.
