Below is a brief outline of projects being covered currently and through-out the term dependant on class teacher:
Expressive
· Clay – Term Three
Learners have been developing their expressive skills in order to translate their 2D drawings into a 3D sculpture. Learners looked at different mark making techniques and used a variety of sculpting tools to build up texture and form with their work. Learners have created unique artworks and experienced new challenges with a familiar media.
· Observational drawing – Term three
Learners have been developing their expressive skills in order to create a personalised artwork. Learners have used a variety of materials, such as pen, watercolour, oil pastel and collage – building on existing experience and skills. Learners have created unique artworks and experienced new challenges with a familiar media.
Design
· Graphic Design: Branding and Packaging Design – Term Three
Learners have been introduced to the work of a graphic designer, the role of brand identity in modern society and the creative ways in which personality can be explored within branding. Learners have been introduced to design briefs and the creative boundaries and challenges that come with this. By working within the constraints of the design brief, learners will design their own logo (Pizza Company/ Coffee logo) and create a 3D prototype of their branded packaging.
From Term Three onwards, the content of lessons within Art & Design begins to advance to CfE Level 4 outcomes. At this early stage it is appropriate for learners to be continuing to work within Level 3 whilst allowing others to experience the challenge of Level 4. During this transition phase learners should be working at Level 3 B or above. Learners working below this level continue to be offered classroom support with CfE Level 3 content to ensure progression in learning.
Working Level and Working Grade descriptions for S2 Art & Design:
Fourth A to D: As with the below descriptors for grades A to D at Third Level, these gradings from A to D reflect excellent through to some progress, the only difference being that the learner is predominantly working at CfE Level 4, which exceeds expectations at this stage. Art and Design is strongly recommended as an S3 subject.
Third A: Making excellent progress in CfE Level 3. Learners work well independently and can consistently demonstrate key skills required such as experimenting with a range of media and technologies to create images and objects. Learners show excellent attention to detail within their work through observing and recording and can create material that shows accuracy of representation. Learners show excellent understanding of how visual elements and visual concepts can be combined within Art & Design. Art and Design is recommended as an S3 subject.
Third B: Making good progress in CfE Level 3. Learners can often work independently and demonstrate good knowledge of key skills required such as experimenting with a range of media and technologies to create images and objects. Learners show good attention to detail within their work through observing and recording and can create material that shows good accuracy of representation. Learners show good understanding of how visual elements and visual concepts can be combined within Art & Design. Art and Design is recommended as an S3 subject.
Third C: Making reasonable progress in CfE Level 3 but finds some aspects of the course challenging. Learners demonstrate some knowledge of key skills required to create images and objects but can sometimes lack the knowledge and understanding to implement further skills. Learners show some attention to detail within their work through observing and recording and can create material that shows some accuracy of representation. Learners show some understanding of how visual elements and visual concepts can be combined but can struggle to apply this within Art & Design. Art & Design with the right attitude and application, would be possible in S3.
Third D: Making some progress in CfE Level 3 but finds many aspects of the course challenging. Learners demonstrate some knowledge of key skills required to create images and objects. Learners show some attention to detail within their work through observing and recording and can struggle to create material that shows some accuracy of representation. Learners show some understanding of how visual elements and visual concepts can be combined but can struggle to apply this within Art & Design. Projects are completed to a basic standard or can often be incomplete. Art and Design as an S3 subject would be challenging.
Second A to D: While continuing to experience CfE Level 3/4 outcomes the majority of the work can be very challenging, and most tasks require further explanation and to be broken down into smaller, simplified versions in order to make progress and build confidence. Art and Design as an S3 subject would be challenging.
