Oxford Semester
Scholarship & Christianity in Oxford (SCIO)
PROGRAM OVERVIEW
The Scholarship & Christianity in Oxford (SCIO) Semester Program is through CCCU GlobalEd and is designed specifically for students seeking an academically robust experience. In tutorials, students meet one-on-one with acclaimed scholars to go head-to-head on subjects. This is an intensive study experience, and while all majors may apply, it requires a GPA of 3.7 or higher or an overall minimum 3.5 GPA with a minimum major GPA of 3.7. There is also an Oxford Summer Program option with different requirements offered to students who may be interested in a shorter program.
The Oxford Semester Program is organized by Scholarship & Christianity in Oxford, a subsidiary of GlobalEd and the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities.

SCIO REQUIRED COURSES
Students must have a GPA of 3.7 or higher or an overall minimum 3.5 GPA with a minimum GPA of 3.7 in their major. If you do not meet this minimum prayerfully consider the Oxford Summer Program, which has a lower GPA requirement.
Spots are limited per academic year, on a first-come, first-served basis after a formal acceptance from GlobalEd. Apply very early.
Explore SCIO tutorial options here. Topics include classics, computer science, engineering, English language & literature, history, history of art, life sciences, mathematics, modern languages, musicology, philosophy, psychology, and theology.
These are one-to-one tutorials, so tutor availability is essential. It is encouraged to apply as early as possible to ensure you will secure your top choice for both your primary and secondary tutorials.
* Students will enroll in 4 required courses, receiving 17 credits total.
*To find SCIO's course equivalencies, go to the Oxford Course Advising List.
Primary Tutorial | 6 Credits = 2 APU Courses | 6 Credits
Secondary Tutorial | 3 Credits = 1 APU Course | 3 Credits
Research Project | 4 Credits = 1 APU Course | 3-4 Credits
Selected Topics in British Culture | 4 Credits = 1 APU Course | 3-4 Credits
Tutorials (Primary & Secondary) - The tutorial is the heart of undergraduate teaching at SCIO. It's an hour-long conversation between a tutor who is engaged in research and one student who has spent the week reading and writing an essay in response to an assigned, research question. For each tutorial, students are given the opportunity to choose their own concentrated tutorials through a wide range of topics. Tutorial Topics may include, but are not limited to: Classics, English Literature, History, History of Art, Modern Languages, Musicology, Philosophy, Psychology, and Theology. The closest thing in the U.S. education system to the tutorials are "independent studies" - they are not the exact same, but similar.
Research Project - In consultation with their supervisors, semester-long students prepare a research plan on a topic of their choice; they reflect on methodological issues within their discipline; and integrate material covered in literature and elsewhere, with a view to produce a piece of research that can help further their scholarly activities beyond Oxford. It is a time to learn from one another as well as from the supervisor and develop research skills for the future.
Selected Topics in British Culture - In this course students attend lectures, viewings, and field trips, but students spend most of their time doing an independent study to produce detailed essays. There are 14 class options, covering a range of disciplines, which are offered for this course.
APU REQUIREMENTS
APU prerequisites are mandatory.
Students are not allowed to take APU online courses unless designated in program elective offerings.
Students must maintain full-time enrollment status (minimum 12 credits).
Select only courses that are connected to your APU degree in order to maintain all financial aid.
Students are automatically enrolled in APU's GLBL 425 course the semester AFTER the program.
If you are an APU Honors student, go here to review curriculum substitution allowed by the Honors College for the Oxford Semester Program.
Registration is all through your APU Account. Upon acceptance, students will be granted access to register for study away sections of the courses.
TRANSFER CREDIT & COURSE SUBSTITUTION
Students will need to complete a Transfer Credit & Course Substitution (TCCS) Form to transfer course credit to APU credits.
A TCCS Form will be required for courses not already approved by APU. Submitted forms go through all academic required departments and results (approvals or denials) are emailed back to students. Results from the TCCS process must be obtained prior to departure so you only take courses that count towards your degree. Keep the results so you have proof of how your program courses will count once you complete them.
See the Oxford Semester Program & APU TCCS Process here.

APU Institutional Aid includes aid such as President's/Dean's/Provost's/Director's/Founder's/M.E.L. scholarships, Fac/Staff Award, Honors/APU Grants, etc. Since students are going to a non-APU program, APU Institutional Aid cannot be used.
