Roseville Area High School students can learn industry-specific skills and, in some cases, may earn free college credit and industry-recognized credentials. Students are involved in engaging, hands-on classroom and field experiences, These courses develop essential skills and experience needed to either enter the workforce directly in a high-paying career or further their education at a two-year or four-year post-secondary institution.

Description: Know your car is a course designed for students who currently or plan to have their own vehicle someday. This course may cover such topics as: automotive history, basic systems on the automobile, basic car care and maintenance, buying a car ( used 1st car scenario ), car insurance, cold weather tips and careers in automotive related industries. 

Print Design I

Description: This introductory class (formerly known as Intro to Media Arts) will explore all aspects of our Media Arts program here at RAHS. This is the base level course needed in order to take any advanced classes in the Media Arts area. We will explore a wide range of technology including screen printing (T-Shirts), digital printing, Intro to the Adobe Creative Suite including Illustrator and InDesign, custom calendar making, beginning your digital portfolio and more! This is a very “hands on” class where you learn by doing. There is a course fee for materials needed to produce projects (these become the property of the student).

Description: Students will be introduced to professional cameras and photo editing software while learning fundamental skills in DSLR camera functions, exposure, and composition. The class will use Adobe Photoshop and teach skills in basic tool operations, photo colorization techniques, photo mergers, and photo restoration. Throughout the semester, Students will build a physical portfolio of their work, which will count as part of their final grade. Camera checkout is available on a limited basis. Access to a digital camera is recommended. There is a course fee for project materials and printed photographs that will become property of the student. 

Exploring Engineering

Description: This course explores the topic of engineering through hands on experiences. It is appropriate for both any student interested in becoming an engineer. This class is also for those with an interest in learning about the design process and other aspects of what engineers do. You will learn how to formulate, articulate and solve problems, how to work on a team to design things, and how to present the results of engineering work in oral and written form. You will also learn about the different disciplines of engineering and the multidisciplinary nature of modern engineering design. A major goal of this class is to help any student find a discipline of engineering that interests them with the possibility to pursue as a career later in life. 

Small Engines I

Description: If you like hands on learning, working with tools and learning how things work this is the class for you! You will come away from this class with the knowledge of how small engines work and learn how to repair and tune up small engine equipment. Students will take apart a 2 and 4-stroke engine, reassemble it, learn all the parts and start it up. Students can bring a lawn mower, snow blower, weed whip or other small engine from home to tune up or repair. All students will also learn how to weld. This is an excellent first step before the automotive classes. Take this once in a lifetime opportunity to learn about equipment that you will someday own!

Woodworking I

Description: This popular class is an introduction to woodworking. All students are welcome in this class. In this course you will learn about safety, hand tools, portable power tools, machines and wood processes. Whether you plan to go to college, technical school or right into the world of work, you will gain information for the preparation for your future by taking this course. Students will make a total of 5 useful and fun woodworking projects to take home. There will be a course fee for materials needed for projects that become the property of the student.

Mechanical Drafting/Engineering I

Description: This class is a combination of both drafting and engineering. Students will use a 3D software called Onshape to design mechanical parts in the classroom. Then draft and dimension different kinds of mechanical parts. Following creating parts in CAD Students will learn how to use 3D printers to make these parts. As part of the final, students will draft all parts and pieces of a toy they choose, then put the toy together in an assembly (IAM) file. Students will use wood and 3D printers to build and create these prototype toys in our new prototyping lab.

Architectural Drafting and Design I

Description: Learn how to design and draft every detail of a home in this exciting class! Architectural Drafting and Design I uses Autodesk Revit, which is an amazing 3D software, to design and build structures from sheds to houses to stadiums! Use the computer lab to design every aspect of the architectural and building process including the foundation, walls, floors, ceiling, stairs and more. Students will start out by designing their DREAM apartment and then create a restaurant that caters to their favorite food. Students will learn all about the building process including building codes and nomenclature. 

Yearbook Publication

Description: Get involved in this school-wide annual publication and stay involved throughout your time at RAHS! Students can take this course multiple times. In this fun and challenging course, students are responsible for planning and creating the entire yearbook, from designing the cover to taking pictures at events to managing our finances and sales. If you are interested in photography, journalism, marketing, business, art, or layout and design, yearbook will help you develop your talents in an upbeat, team-oriented atmosphere. At the end of the year, you will have a tangible product to show for all your hard work and many memories and new skills to take with you in the future.

These classes aim to empower all girls (any female identifying or non binary student) by giving them a safe space to learn career and technical skills in traditionally male-dominated shop classes. The curriculum is the exact same projects and rigor taught in the co-ed classes. 

Auto Mechanics I

Then this is the perfect class for you. At the Raider Auto Shop we study the basic systems that make a car work. We accomplish this by working on real cars with real problems and we fix them! Do not worry if you currently do not know much about cars, all you need to bring is a desire to learn and we will take it from there. If you plan to have a car someday, this is the perfect class to gain automotive knowledge that you can use for any car you ever own. This is a great class to take for everyone: from anyone who plans to own a car, wants to be a mechanic or even become an automotive engineer. Note: This class is designed for female students to get a chance to learn about cars in an exclusive, non-threating work environment. If not enough female students sign up for a whole class to run, then all female students will be grouped in the same class with male students. So sign up with a friend, either way you will be in class together. Description: This class is your pathway to continue your education in automotive technology. The class follows a similar format as Automotive Mechanics I, however, we move on to the next level. Continue to improve your skills from the previous class while taking on newer and bigger challenges in The Raider Auto Shop. We will be fixing real cars with real issues. This is a great class to take for everyone: from anyone who plans to own a car, wants to be a mechanic or even become an automotive engineer. Sign up for Auto 2, 3, and even 4 if your schedule permits….. Multiple advanced auto mechanic courses can be taken in the same trimester, so you could have this class two hours in a row!

Drone/UAS Technology

Drone/UAS Technology I

Description: This introductory class allows you to find out more about the world of drones, Unmanned Aerial Systems and their related technologies, You will explore how drones are currently being used in a wide range of applications and what the future holds for this fast growing technology. We will explore various drone systems, safety, FAA rules and regulations, national airspace system and much more. Each person will have their own drone to fly in class on a regular basis. You will learn basic flight operations and learn how to fly drones safely and effectively. This class will lay the foundation in order to take Drone / UAS II where you will study to take your FAA Part 107 exam to become a commercial drone pilot! We will fly several advanced drones in this class and specifically discuss ways you can make money flying drones as a business. There is a course fee for materials that become the property of the student.

Drone/UAS Technology II

Description: You will take the knowledge gained in Drone / UAS I and build upon that knowledge in order to take the FAA part 107 exam to become a commercial drone pilot and earn your wings! We will emphasize advanced flight training using several new sophisticated drones and ways that they can be used. We will examine flight management systems that can be downloaded on a mobile device to make flying even easier. We will also look into what can be done with the video and photos that you shoot to produce professional photos and videos. Enrolled students should check with instructor about the availability of college credit for taking both Drones I & II courses.

Description: Engineering is the main focus of this class. Students will work in small groups on a project they will design and produce. Students use the skills from Mechanical Drafting/Engineering I to draft the project then they will engineer and make it. In the past students have made hover crafts, motor bikes and more! Students will also use the 3D printers to make a product such as a cell phone case or key chain that will then be produced and sold. 

Mechanical Drafting/Engineering III

Description: This class is for students who have already taken Drafting/Mechanical Engineering II. This class will be run consecutively to the Drafting/Mechanical Engineering II class with students in the Level III class being design team leaders. The focus of this course is creating leadership in the engineering field. Each Student in level III will be responsible for leading a design team. We will be working independently with team leaders to increase their leadership capability. We will discussing different theories of leadership and test these theories on a daily basis. These students will be working with everyone on the team and will be involved in every level of the design process.


Architectural Drafting and Design I

Description: Architectural Design/Drafting II will focus on designing and building of commercial structures. Projects completed in the past include shopping malls, sports stadiums, skyscrapers, nightclubs, restaurants, car dealerships, and movie theaters. The designing will be done using a 3D Autodesk software (Revit) then models will be moved to an amazing virtual reality software called Lumion. 

Civil Engineering

Description: Civil Engineering is for students who have a curiosity and/or interest in Civil Engineering. The main areas of study will be surveying, roads, bridges, retaining walls and tunnels. We will be studying design, maintenance, and the construction parts of the projects. We will be exploring the different jobs and responsibilities of the different workers who are needed to complete these big jobs. We will also be designing a bridge using AutoCAD. We will be designing and building concrete benches. Finally we will be going outside and surveying a piece of high school property for a mock addition. 

Manufacturing with Welding

Description: This course will begin to build a foundation for additional training opportunities in machining, manufacturing and welding disciplines. Instructional areas will include accuracy of print reading, use of precision measuring instruments, use of Computer Aided Design and Modeling, and benchwork applications and operations. We will learn these essential skills by creating hands on projects with 3D printers, welders, and computerized routing systems just to mention a few. Today's manufacturing offers many high paying jobs with many job opportunities for advancement. These technical skills are a necessity for any student who has a desire to enter many fabrication or manufacturing careers. These skills are required for a National Institute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS) Level 1 credential.

Description: Print Design III (formerly Production “Raider Grafix”) is a class where you learn how to run a real printing company. It’s like on the job training right here at school! You will learn all aspects of the business. You will work on real customer orders and do everything from working on art, printing the garments or other printed items they are purchasing from us. Students have an opportunity to earn money through our incentive system based on the orders you print! Production printing is a way for students to gain real world experience in running a business and furthering your skills to become college or job ready. There is no course fee for this class.

Description: The famous photographer Chase Jarvis once said “the best camera is the one that's with you,” and students will use their iPad or other mobile devices in this class since it's the most convenient camera to capture that perfect moment. Everything learned in the class about mobile photography will translate to professional photography. Students will learn about multiple forms of photography, (documentary, commercial, and fine art), as well as learn the fundamental skills of digital photography. These fundamental skills include lighting basics, composition, and editing. Throughout the semester, Students will build a digital portfolio of their work and reflect on their growth, which will count as part of their final grade.

Description: Students who enroll in the course will learn how to operate a digital SLR camera in manual, studio and lighting operations, as well as learn specialized photographic and advanced composition techniques. Students will work on advanced skills in Photoshop and other Adobe applications. Through out the course students will create both a digital and physical portfolio of their work. DSLR camera checkout will be available to students who are currently enrolled. There is a course fee for project materials and printed photographs that will become property of the student. Description: Students will learn advanced DSLR camera processes, advanced Photoshop and other Adobe applications and explore various genres of photography at a deeper level than in previous courses. Students will also learn advanced studio operations and lighting for portraiture and product photography. Graphic Design I

Description: In this introductory course, students will learn how to create professional looking designs and images using Adobe Illustrator. Students will work on a variety of design projects including logo creation, holiday creations, coasters, t-shirts, full color posters and much more. Knowledge of computer basics is helpful. You don’t have to be an artist to take this class. Enrolled students should check with their instructor about availability of concurrent enrollment credit through Saint Paul College.  There is a course fee for materials needed to produce projects (these become the property of the student).

Description: Get involved in this school-wide annual publication and stay involved throughout your time at RAHS! Students can take this course multiple times. In this fun and challenging course, students are responsible for planning and creating the entire yearbook, from designing the cover to taking pictures at events to managing our finances and sales. If you are interested in photography, journalism, marketing, business, art, or layout and design, yearbook will help you develop your talents in an upbeat, team-oriented atmosphere. At the end of the year, you will have a tangible product to show for all your hard work and many memories and new skills to take with you in the future.

Small Engines I

Description: If you like hands on learning, working with tools and learning how things work this is the class for you! You will come away from this class with the knowledge of how small engines work and learn how to repair and tune up small engine equipment. Students will take apart a 2 and 4-stroke engine, reassemble it, learn all the parts and start it up. Students can bring a lawn mower, snow blower, weed whip or other small engine from home to tune up or repair. All students will also learn how to weld. This is an excellent first step before the automotive classes. Take this once in a lifetime opportunity to learn about equipment that you will someday own!

Description: This class is nearly all hands on, focusing on repair. Students will work on a more complex engine than they worked on in Small Engines I. Students will be involved in a repair competition that will teach the students about all different types of repairs. Then, students can bring in equipment from home that are in need of repairs and tune ups. The last 3-4 weeks of the trimester, the classroom will become a small engine repair shop where customers will bring in equipment for the students to repair and tune up. Students will get to work on numerous repair jobs. Students will also get to do a lot more welding and get to weld up a project. 

Small Engines III With Power Sports

Description: By the end of this class students will have the competencies to be able to start their own small gas engine business or work in the small gas engines field. Students will get further training and knowledge in all aspects of how to repair all different types of small engines as well as learn how a small engines business is run. This class is primarily all hands on learning so that students will be able to work on as many projects as possible. Students will also get more training and time on the welders to be able to build a project of their own.

Description: This course will add to your Woodworking I background and you can earn 2 college credits for free. You will experience more technology in woodworking. Your project will further develop your design, planning, and fabricating skills and knowledge. You will build a night stand which contains a drawer and a raised panel door. There will be a course fee for materials needed for projects. Concurrent enrollment with Hennipen Technical College. After successful completion of this course students will earn 2 college credits that will transfer into most Minnesota State Colleges and technical schools. 

Woodworking III

Description: You will learn the various cabinet making and furniture making skills and terminology. This will be accomplished by constructing an individual project of your choice. The machine technology of raised panels will be stressed during this class. Small chest of drawers, commodes, bathroom vanities are some of the projects you can build. You will work on this project from the beginning with design and costs, to the actual building of the project. The skills you will learn and develop will be useful in your home, hobby, and career. There will be a course fee for materials needed for projects that become the property of the student. 

Woodworking IV

Description: You will further your skills and knowledge of woodworking during this class. This will allow you to practice dovetails and veneering. You will be challenged by more complicated projects to fabricate. Your design and planning skills will be expanded. This class may be taken for two consecutive periods in the same trimester by arrangement with the teacher. There will be a course fee for materials needed for projects that become the property of the student. 

Woodworking V

Description: This class will pull together all that you have learned in the previous woodworking classes. You will be planning a project that will incorporate as many skills and procedures as you have gathered from the other classes. This will help to fine tune your skills while fabricating your project. This course can be taken up to three times per school year. You can arrange for a two hour block by arrangement with the teacher. There will be a course fee for materials needed for projects. 

Learning The Construction Trades

Description: Construction trades are in desperate need for workers. In this class you will be learning how to do numerous trades through hands on work. Students will learn about the trades by building a structure that uses these skills. Students will start by building a floor, then they will move on to framing the walls and then adding a roof and shingles. Students will also learn about how to find jobs in each trade as well as learn from people in the trade what their job is all about. 

Advanced Construction Trades: Framing to Finish

Description: This course will introduce and build basic skills in the areas of carpentry, metals, electricity, pipefitting and others as time permits. Capstone projects could include the building of a shed, ice house, or tiny house
