Art: Art Exploration Online

Description: New to art or not sure what art medium you love? Students in Art Exploration will create art using a variety of 2D and 3D media, including clay, painting, drawing, printmaking, and sculpture. For each media unit, students will explore historical and contemporary examples, and create their own original art.

Description: Everyone wants money, but do you know what to do with it? In this course, you will learn the essential life skill of how to manage personal finances, now and in the future. Topics include saving & banking, credit, identity protection, financing education, investments, taxes, buying a car, insurance, renting vs. buying and budgeting. Students will benefit from using state of the art software simulations and computer modules as well as hearing from various guest speakers. Students who earn 85% or higher in this course may receive articulated credits with St. Paul College.

Description: Know your car is a course designed for students who currently or plan to have their own vehicle someday. This course will cover such topics as: automotive history, basic systems on the automobile, basic car care and maintenance, buying a car (new or used), purchasing car insurance, what to do if you are in an accident, cold weather tips and careers in automotive related industries.

Description: This class is a combination of both drafting and engineering. Students will use a 3D software called Autodesk Inventor to design mechanical parts on the dual monitors in the classroom. Students will draft and dimension all different kinds of mechanical parts. Students will draft all parts to a train, put it together in an assembly (IAM) file and make a track for it to roll on. A 3D printer will also be used in the class by all students. Students will learn how to use it and print out parts they design on it. The last part of the class, students will engineer a child’s toy by drafting it and then making it in the attached woodshop.

Description: Students will use the best camera - the one they already have! Everything learned in the class is applicable to mobile as well as professional photography. Students will learn about multiple forms of photography, (documentary, commercial, and fine art), as well as learn the fundamental skills of digital photography. These fundamental skills include lighting basics, composition, and editing. Throughout the semester, Students will build a digital portfolio of their work and reflect on their growth, which will count as part of their final grade.

Description: Have you ever wondered how you will make it on your own? You will learn how to rent an apartment and decorate it on a budget, buy a car, make a major purchase and tracking your expenses to see where your money goes. We will also cover how to cope with consumer issues like checking and savings accounts, filling our tax forms, evaluating credit card options, finding affordable insurance quotes, and exploring career and post-secondary options. These are important life skills that everyone will use in the future.

This course gives prospective teachers and school professionals perspective on the rewards and challenges of teaching in diverse schools and communities. You will examine your own socializations, as well as examine and challenge personal and structural racism, sexism, and classism as it relates to the classroom. Course topics will include a historical survey of schooling in the United States, as well as rich discussions on education philosophies and current issues facing PreK-12 schools. You will be expected to critically observe and participate in K-12 schools and community life for at least 30 hours as a requirement for successfully completing the course.

Description: This course is designed to develop writing skills for the college-bound student. Students will work on writing style, diction, organization, sentence structure, research skills, mechanics, and usage. Assignments will include various types of expository writing, such as description, narration, analysis, and persuasion. Emphasis will be placed on the editing and revising process. Students may expect to share some of the writing with a peer, in small groups, or in large class discussion as a means of receiving constructive feedback in a supportive atmosphere. 

English: Themes in American Literature Online

Description: Storytelling in America helps to define who we are. This overview of American literature will acquaint motivated students with well-known American authors whose writings reflect American culture, ideas, and literary forms. Students will focus their study around selected themes. This overview will emphasize writings from a variety of eras as well as multicultural perspectives. A variety of assignments and types of literature will be used to develop a broader and more diverse understanding of the American literary tradition. This course meets the American Literature requirement, and students registered for this course should not register for American Short Stories or AP Language and Composition. Students are expected to read two of the Summer Reading options.

Description: Advanced Algebra - Three trimesters includes an in-depth study of linear, quadratic, and exponential functions, and an exploration of data analysis and probability. Graphing calculators will be used when appropriate to visualize and solve problems. All topics will focus on conceptual understanding as well as procedural knowledge. This class also features a review of essential mathematical concepts.

Description: This course is intended for students who have successfully completed Advanced Algebra (or beyond) and need a refresher before taking courses such as College Algebra and/or Pre-Calculus when entering college. The topics include a review of solving equations and inequalities and their applications, exponents and polynomials, factoring polynomials, solving quadratic equations and their applications, rational expressions, rational exponents and radicals, and graphing functions (linear and quadratic). Successful completion of this course (Grade "B" or higher) would would give students “Advanced Standing” status which allows them to immediately begin taking credit-bearing, college-level mathematics upon entering Saint Paul College.

It will also enhance the understanding of statistical concepts found on the MCA-II in mathematics.

Description: Are you passionate about recording, producing, and mixing music? This course will explore the wide range of technology available in the music industry, and provide hands-on training for students who wish to learn more about the music business. Previous music experience is helpful, but not required.

Description: Health 10 Online is a one trimester course that enhances the development of the whole student by guiding each person through understanding the seven dimensions of wellness: Social, Physical, Emotional, Career, Intellectual, Environmental, and Spiritual. Students will understand health prevention and promotion techniques, develop skills needed in confronting adverse situations, recognize the value of health literacy and be able to demonstrate the skills to advocate for personal growth. The Roseville Health curriculum empowers students to gain the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to make informed and positive decisions throughout their lives. This class is for individuals are well-organized, diligent workers, and can advocate for themselves. 

During the CPR unit, you will be required to attend Raider Time to practice and test out.

Prerequisites: In order for students to participate in this course, they must either have completed the Career Seminar course or take the Career Seminar course concurrently. 

Description: The Work Experience course is a partnership between RAHS and businesses that is fostered and directly supervised by a Work Experience Coordinator. RAHS students can participate in Work-Based Learning during their Junior and/or Senior years. Work experience opportunities can include job-shadowing, internships, apprenticeships, or a combination of two or more. The Work Coordinator will assist students in finding work experiences based on the interest of each student. Students are responsible for securing their own form of transportation to get to their work experience sites. This elective course can be taken for multiple periods within one trimester or throughout the school year.
