English Language Development
The English Language Development (ELD) Program provides research-based language instruction and programming support for students receiving English Language Development services and advocates for equity for multilingual students in all learning environments. All English learners (EL) will achieve mastery in all learning environments through English Language Development (ELD) services, differentiated content instruction, and classroom support.

Description: This class builds on the English Learners 2 concepts in reading, writing, listening and speaking. Students read short stories and simple novels to build vocabulary and develop their writing skills from paragraphs to short stories. In this course, students will participate in guided discussions, develop their grammar skills and move beyond basic English vocabulary to acquire academic English.

Description: This class builds on the English Learners 3 concepts in reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Students work with exciting and moderately challenging absented narratives and pieces of literature that are tailored to their linguistic needs. Also, this course integrates technology, grammar activities, and vocabulary lessons to support the students' learning. Lastly, students will focus on writing journals, essays and personal narratives.

Intro to Interpreting

Description: Intro to Interpreting introduces bilingual students to the basics of interpreting including the different types of interpreting, the role of the interpreter, and common interpreting errors. Students in this course will learn about the codes of ethics interpreters follow and will practice applying them in healthcare, education, and legal interpreting situations. Students will develop academic and specialized vocabulary in both English and their native language and will have opportunities to practice interpreting with peers. Opportunities for special projects that support the RAHS and Roseville community and for guest speakers also exist.

Description: Sheltered Content 11 is a two-trimester required course that engages students in applying critical thinking skill while reading, writing, listening, and speaking. An emphasis will be placed on identifying and using figurative language, using textual evidence as support for arguments, and writing personal essays.
