Technology

Each student is issued a Chromebook for instructional use. Teachers and students will also have access to iPads. Teachers will look for frequent opportunities to embed and integrate technology into the curriculum. Students AND parents must agree to the device contract in class in order to have full access to technology. Students will be required to adhere to all county and school technology guidelines. Failure to adhere to those guidelines could result in a students’ access to technology being revoked.

While each classroom has Internet access, parents must sign the ACCEPTABLE USE POLICY giving permission for students to log onto the Internet. Teachers may use selected Internet sites for instructional purposes with the entire class. Students who do have parental permission are monitored closely while they work on the Internet. Students are not allowed to access the Internet without teacher supervision.

Student Technology Responsible Use and Equipment Agreement Form

I agree to the following guidelines for use of technology equipment provided by CCS.

Students in CCS may be assigned or use technology equipment to enhance their learning. Technology equipment is not limited to the device assigned to the student. This agreement applies to all technology equipment the student uses. Anyone who uses school system computers, electronic devices, or personal devices at a CCS location, or who accesses the school network or the Internet at an educational site must comply with the requirements listed below. (Policy 3225 & 4310)

Device Ownership & Purpose

The laptop or tablet assigned to me is property of CCS and is provided to help me learn and meet my school goals. I will use my device for schoolwork only and follow all school rules and policies when using the internet. I will not download or access games, music, videos, or other non-school-related content.

Internet & Application Use

I will not create, access, download, or share anything that is inappropriate, harmful, or offensive, including images, messages, or videos. Some Google tools (like YouTube) may be available even though they are usually for ages 18+. I will only use them in appropriate and educational ways. I understand that anything I do online at school is not private. CCS may monitor internet activity, emails, files, and accounts at any time.

Care, Damage & Tech Support

I will return my device when requested—at the end of the year, if I move, graduate, or misuse it. I will tell my teacher or school staff right away if my device is lost, broken, or not working. Any damages caused to technology equipment that are normal wear and tear is covered by CCS, but my family may have to pay for damage caused by misuse or neglect. CCS tech staff may remotely access my device to fix problems, and they may contact me directly by phone, email, or other ways to help with repairs.

Safety, Privacy & Rules

I will not let other students borrow or use my assigned device, charger, or accessories. I will only use my device in class when my teacher allows it. I agree to follow all copyright laws when using websites, software, images, or content. If I log in to a personal device using my CCS account, that device may also be monitored and follow CCS rules.

Consequences

I understand that violating technology rules may lead to disciplinary action, including loss of device use or more serious consequences like suspension or expulsion in extreme cases.

Students may use AI tools for:

✅ Brainstorming ideas for assignments and projects

✅ Summarizing complex topics to improve understanding

✅ Generating practice questions and study guides

✅ Enhancing writing through grammar and style suggestions

✅ Assisting with coding and computational thinking

AI tools should complement learning, not replace student effort.

Prohibited Uses of AI

🚫 Submitting AI-generated content as original work without disclosure
🚫 Using AI for cheating (e.g., generating full essays, solving test problems)
🚫 Creating false or misleading information
🚫 Generating or sharing inappropriate, harmful, or biased content
🚫 Violating privacy by entering personal or sensitive data into AI tools

Students must follow school academic integrity policies when using AI.

Student AI Suggestions for Responsible Use:

Seek Permission from teachers on the assignment specific expectations.
Cite AI tools when used for research or content generation
Verify that AI tools are approved. Approved AI are listed on the Technology Webpage

Do not enter personal information (e.g., full name, address, passwords) into AI platforms.

Policy Code 4318 Student Use of Electronic Devices: On June 10, 2024, the Board of Education updated Policy 4318 Student Use of Electronic Devices. Policy 4318 is attached to this post. Please note the following important updates for the 2024-25 school year:

Elementary School: Students are not allowed to utilize electronic devices from arrival on campus through departure from campus. Students are required to power off and securely store their cell phones away from their person throughout the school day.

School employees may immediately confiscate any electronic device that is on, used, displayed, or visible in violation of this policy. Absent compelling and unusual circumstances, confiscated electronic devices will be returned only to the student's parent or guardian. Smart watches and similar devices should be used primarily for their intended functions. However, the use of these devices for other purposes that lead to classroom distractions are subject to school-based consequences and possible confiscation.

Leaving the classroom during instructional time to use electronic device in another setting including but not limited to hallways, bathrooms, or stairwells, is subject to school-based consequences and confiscation.
