It’s great to hear the sounds of music at ANPS! As we like to say Music Matters. Music engages and stimulates our minds, connects us to new friends and enriches the school community through performance.
In 2024 we have over 100 students in the program! We have three string ensembles – Junior, Chamber and Senior Strings, two Band ensembles – Junior and Senior Band, and an Orchestra made up from Senior Band and Strings players.
Being a part of an ensemble provides a fun and encouraging atmosphere in which to start learning an instrument. Ensembles promote teamwork and peer relationships within a creative environment and provide a creative outlet for students. Students can improve discipline, goal setting and responsibility through practice and participation. The mix of ages in the ensembles promotes friendships across the grades.
Music participation improves problem solving, self-expression, coordination, memory skills, self-confidence and concentration. Children with learning difficulties in other areas often respond well to learning music as it provides a comfortable environment where children work towards goals as part of an ensemble.
There are also plenty of performance opportunities for children in a friendly and supportive environment. The music performances can boost school morale and enhance the school’s reputation in the community.
Budding musicians and parents are encouraged to learn more throughout the year at assemblies and other performances.
Most students register in November to start in Term 1 of the following year although students may join at any time by request.
Watch out for notices in the ANPS Newsletter or email us at music@anpspandc.org if you have any questions.
Entry to the strings ensembles (and often the program) is through Junior Strings. Students can start Junior Strings in Year 1. After 1.5 to 2 years in Junior Strings, or at the Director's discretion, students progress to Chamber Strings and ultimately to Senior Strings.
Entry to the Junior Band starts from Year 3. Committed students usually progress to the Senior Band the following year.
Members of the Senior Strings and Senior band are invited by the Directors to join the Orchestra. The orchestra rehearses together once a week — just like every other ensemble.
