Curriculum Equalities and British Values

At Cottingley Primary we take very seriously our responsibility to prepare children for life in modern Britain. We ensure that British values* are introduced, discussed and lived out through the ethos and work of the school. All curriculum areas develop these values but in particular our IPC, RE and PSHE curriculum provide discrete opportunities to further deepen pupil's understanding.

Ofsted say:

'...the scope of the curriculum is broad and balanced and at the end of each topic there is an emphasis on values, which helps to deepen pupils' understanding of British values and prepares them for life in modern Britain.'

*British values fall into five categories:

Mutual respect

Tolerance of those with different faiths

Democracy

Rule of Law

Individual liberty
