Module 1: Accessing and Analyzing Data

Explore types of assessment and what they do: screeners, progress monitoring, diagnostics
Analyze a screener to determine the next steps
Module 2: Identifying Skill Deficits for Strategy Alignment
This module assumes you know and can do the following:
Students with reading difficulties have been identified.
There is a need to identify specific skill deficits.
Competency
Continually assess student progress against clearly defined standards, goals, and outcomes to identify specific topics in which each student needs additional support to achieve mastery of a concept or skill.
Learning Outcomes
I can analyze data to determine student reading needs
What I will DO in this module:
Use data to identify students’ strengths and specific skill deficits
Group students by skill deficits
Match the appropriate recommendation to the skill deficits identified
Module 3: Build Students’ Decoding Skills
This module assumes you know and can do the following:
Students with decoding needs have been identified.
Teachers need a word-reading routine to support decoding instruction.
Competency
Continually assess student progress against clearly defined standards, goals, and outcomes to identify specific topics in which each student needs additional support to achieve mastery of a concept or skill.
Learning Outcomes
I can identify and implement strategies to support students with difficulties reading unfamiliar and complex multisyllabic words in large and small groups.
I can build students’ decoding skills so they can read complex multisyllabic words.
What I will DO in this module:
Go through each of the four recommendations- have teachers choose based on current student intervention needs
Build other modules in a way that has teachers go back to module 2 for more learning on the other recommendations
Module 4: Provide Purposeful Fluency-building Practices
This module assumes you know and can do the following:
Identified students with fluency needs using a screener
Competency
Continually assess student progress against clearly defined standards, goals, and outcomes to identify specific topics in which each student needs additional support to achieve mastery of a concept or skill.
Learning Outcomes
I can provide purposeful fluency-building activities to help students read with increased ease.
What I will DO in this module:
Establish a purpose for implementing a repeated reading routine
Implement reading routines to build prosody
Provide opportunities to read a wide range of texts
Module 5: Build Students’ World and Word Knowledge
This module assumes you know and can do the following:
Identify students who need support building world and word knowledge.
Identify students who struggle with making sense of the text.
Competency
Continually assess student progress against clearly defined standards, goals, and outcomes to identify specific topics in which each student needs additional support to achieve mastery of a concept or skill.
Learning Outcomes
I can build students’ world and word knowledge so they can make sense of the text.
What I will DO in this module:
Learn how to carry out the recommendation: Build students’ world and word knowledge so they can make sense of text
Develop world knowledge that is relevant for making sense of the passage.
Teach the meaning of a few essential words for understanding the passage.
Teach students how to derive meanings of unknown words using context.
Teach prefixes and suffixes to help students derive the meanings of words.
Teach the meaning of Latin and Greek roots.
Modules 6+
This module assumes you know and can do the following:
CELEBRATION OF LEARNING
As appropriate, opportunities to crowdsource knowledge or design ideas within or across districts.
CHECKPOINT
Checkpoints include self-assessments, quick checks, peer feedback opportunities, reflection questions, etc. This is a way for you to determine if you are ready to move to the next module and/or if you would like to go deeper or return to previous modules for additional learning or practice.
