Nursery to Primary 1 Transition

Due to the current COVID-19 restrictions placed in schools, we are unable to proceed with our normal transition arrangements as below.

Where a parent or carer has a specific concern about their child starting school, we would encourage them to make contact with us to discuss this further.

This session (20/21) we have created Transition Activities which will be shared weekly via our Transition Website.

Children who attend Nursery sessions at Skene Square School are already familiar with the school and its staff before they enter Primary 1. To help ease the transition further nursery children will make many planned visits in Term 4. More informal opportunities to visit and to play and learn alongside Primary 1 happen throughout the year. The nursery is very much part of the school and nursery pupils have many opportunities to be involved in either departmental or whole school events throughout the year.

During Term 4 of the session, we will offer a number of opportunities for pupils who do not attend our nursery to visit Skene Square School prior to starting Primary 1. These opportunities may include several class visits to Primary 1 as well as events in Westburn Park and our playground. Our teaching staff will also, where possible, visit children in their current setting to begin to build relationships.

We also offer a Parent and Carer Information Session in June. This is a chance to meet the Senior Leadership Team and Class Teachers to find out more about starting Primary 1.
