NPA Scientific Technologies SCQF Level 6
Description:
Learners will continue to develop their knowledge and understanding of science to prepare them for progression to further studies in science related disciplines and/or to enhance job prospects through the practical content of the course.
Pupils complete 4 units of work.
· Laboratory Safety
· Mathematics for Science 2
· Fundamental chemistry: An introduction
· Experimental procedures: Science
Entry Requirement
Any National 5 or NPA Level 5 science and approval from Science Teacher
Assessment
Assessment at the end of 3 units with 60% required to pass. A written report of two experiments required to pass Experimental Procedures: Science.
Final Exam
There is no exam for this course.
Higher Biology
Description:
To develop their understanding of the role of Biology in scientific issues and relevant applications of Biology. Pupils will participate in variety of activities extending their knowledge and understanding for more advanced learning in Biology.
Pupils complete 3 units of work and an assignment.

Entry Requirement
National 5 Biology at grade C or above.
Assessment
Level 6 Assessment at the end of each unit with 50% required to pass. An assignment that includes an experiment/ field work/ experimental data and research from each candidate conducted under controlled conditions.
Final Exam
Total marks – 120
Paper 1
Candidates have 40 minutes to complete question paper 1
Contains 25 multiple choice questions.
Paper 2
Candidates have 2 hours and 20 minutes to complete question paper 2.
Contains 95 marks for restricted response and extended- response questions.
Higher Chemistry

Final exam paper 1 - 45 minutes 25 multiple choice questions. Paper 2 - 2 hours 15 minutes 130 marks in extended answer questions.
