PC Passport
Level 4 PC Passport
Course Description
The NPA PC Passport at SCQF level 4 (National 4) provides pupils with up-to-date knowledge and skills in a range of popular IT software, such as Office 365. Learners will improve skills in key areas such as word processing, spreadsheets and presentation software, preparing them for employment and further study.
This qualification will offer you many opportunities to make progress, become successful, and create and collaborate using software services.
It is made up of three National Units:
Web Apps: Word Processing (Microsoft Word)
Web Apps: Spreadsheets (Microsoft Excel)
Web Apps: Presentations (Microsoft PowerPoint)
The level 4 covers the basic knowledge of these packages. The knowledge and skills which you develop as you progress through the qualification will be useful all along your education; they are highly valued by employers and will help you progress your career in whatever path you pursue.
Entry requirements
No qualifications required.
Assessment
All three units must be completed to gain the qualification.
Microsoft Word - Two practical tasks covering all three Outcomes
Microsoft PowerPoint - Multiple Choice Test (closed book) and One practical task
Microsoft Excel - Multiple Choice Test (closed book) and One practical task
Final exam
No final exam.
Business and Administration
S3 Business
Description
Pupils will look at how businesses develop and operate, internal and external factors which impacts businesses and their decision making, along with how to manage employees and finance within a business.
Pupils will also complete a project about personal finance such as use of credit/debit cards, loans, how to read a payslip, bank accounts and identifying fraud.
Assessment
Pupils will be marked against Level 3/4 benchmarks throughout the course. Pupils will also have the opportunity to complete National 4 assessments which will be awarded the following year on their SQA certificates if they do not progress to National 5. .
S3 Administration
Description
Pupils consider the role of an Administration Assistant including how to handle secure information, legislation and internet searching. Pupils will also complete a variety of practical tasks relating to the following topics:
Microsoft Word
Microsoft PowerPoint
Microsoft Access (databases)
Microsoft Excel (spreadsheets)
Email and Ediary
Assessment
There will be assessments at the end of each topic which relate to Level 3/4 benchmarks. Pupils will also have the opportunity to complete National 4 assessments which will be awarded the following year on their SQA certificates if they do not progress to National 5.
Design and Technology
Practical Craft Skills
Description:
This course will build skills and knowledge of all things woodworking and metalworking. The course is mainly practical and based in the workshop but there will also be a small proportion which will cover theory.
S3 PCS Units:
Flat Frame Construction (wood)
Carcase Construction (wood)
Machining and Finishing (wood)
AVU (wood)
Fabrication and Thermal Joining (metal)
Entry Requirement
Pupils must have a clean record of safely conducting themselves in the school as safety is imperative in this course. Pupils should be keen to move into a career as a tradesman, engineer or any other form of construction.
Assessment
The models which the pupils make will mirror the N4 course and will be assessed against the N4 assessment standards.
Final Exam
A final exam to test the theory-based learning will take place at the end of the academic year.
Graphic Communication
Description:
This course will build skills and knowledge of all things Graphic Communication. The course will contain a series of tasks which will fall under preliminary, production or promotional graphics. The tasks will vary from manual sketching and rendering to computer aided design (CAD) on software packages such as Autodesk Inventor and Adobe Photoshop.
Graphic Communication Units:
2D Unit (a range of 2D tasks will be undertaken)
3D Unit (a range of 3D tasks will be undertaken)
Entry Requirement
Pupils should have completed the S2 Design and Technology course in order to have good foundation skills and knowledge to build on for the S3 course.
Assessment
The unit tasks which the pupils make will complete will mirror the N4 course and will be assessed against the N4 assessment standards.
Final Exam
A final exam to test the theory-based learning will take place at the end of the academic year.
