S3 Music
Description
This course offers students the opportunity to develop skills in Performing, Listening, Musical Literacy and Composition which will equip students with required skills for SQA Music courses.
Students are required to perform on two instruments/one instrument and voice. Students will learn about a range of musical styles including Popular Music, Scottish Music and World Music and learn basic musical literacy skills to aid reading/understanding written music. Students will also have the opportunity to learn about Composition and explore different strategies including the use of digital programmes such as music notation software and BandLab.
This course will also develop pupil employability skills including self-management, creativity and problem solving.
Pupils are required to perform on two instruments/one instrument and voice to take this course.
This will allow pupils to progress to National 4/5 Music next year.
S3 Music Technology
Description
This is a new course on offer where pupils will learn to use industry standard sound equipment and technology including GarageBand, Audacity and microphones to create, record and produce music using Macs. Pupils will also learn about some modern music styles and participate in short individual and group projects which may include:
● Mixing music using loops
● Sound design for films and video games
● Creating podcasts/radio broadcasts/audiobooks
● Making and recording sound effects
This independent learning course will also develop pupil employability skills including digital literacy, self-management, creativity and problem solving.
* Pupils do not need to be able to play a musical instrument to take this course.
This will allow pupils to progress to National 5 Music Technology next year.
Drama
Description
The third year Drama course is designed to develop students’ creative and practical skills in drama. It provides opportunities for learners to explore a variety of dramatic techniques, forms,genre and production techniques.
The course is split into 5 Units, which have a practical and written component at the end of each. These are not pass or fail tests, they simply show pupil development.
The units include:
Devising skills, focusing on themes and issues
Production skills
Form and Genre
Voice and Movement skills
Acting Skills
This will allow pupils to take National 4/5 Drama.
