Art and Design Skills Building
Description
S3 pupils are within Broad General Education but are preparing for the Senior Phase. In S3 they will continue to refine their creative skills and will have the opportunity to develop their media handling skills and use of technologies through a variety of Expressive and Design projects. S3 pupils will deepen their knowledge of the design process by learning to work through a design brief. They will continue to learn how to observe, record and convey ideas through drawing. Pupils will also develop their evaluation skills by learning to analyse their own work, the work of their classmates and the work of artists and designers. Within each unit of work there is a strong emphasis on drawing, personal expression and creative problem solving.

Assessment
Pupils work throughout the year will be assessed against Level 3/4 benchmarks.
Fashion and Textile Design
Description
This course provides an opportunity to learn how to operate a sewing machine by completing small exercises while considering health and safety factors. Pupils will learn about various construction and textile techniques.
They will also explore different investigative methods to help develop their design ideas and will be asked to evaluate their findings.
Pupils will learn how to create fashion illustrations and specification drawings.
Additionally, they will aim to develop their analytical skills by completing theory tasks.

N4 Unit 3- Fashion and Textile Choices
Entry Requirement
You should be creative and enjoy practical assignments, while also being willing to study theory, including fabric attributes, techniques, trends, online shopping, and design planning.
Assessment
Pupils create a portfolio of evidence by completing SQA units. This portfolio is developed throughout the year.
No assessment at the end of the year.
N4 units and the Added Value Unit are assessed by your class teacher.
Final Exam
N4 No final exam.
