PC Passport
Level 6
Course Description
The NPA PC Passport at SCQF level 6 (Higher) provides pupils with up-to-date knowledge and skills in a range of popular IT software, such as Office 365. Learners will improve skills in key areas such as word processing, spreadsheets and presentation software, preparing them for employment and further study.
This qualification will offer you many opportunities to make progress, become successful, and create and collaborate using software services.
It is made up of three National Units:
Web Apps: Word Processing (Microsoft Word)
Web Apps: Spreadsheets (Microsoft Excel)
Web Apps: Presentations (Microsoft PowerPoint)
The level 6 covers the advanced features of these packages. The knowledge and skills which you develop as you progress through the qualification will be useful all along your education; they are highly valued by employers and will help you progress your career in whatever path you pursue.
Entry requirements
NPA PC Passport Level 4 is highly recommended.
Assessment
All three units must be completed to gain the qualification.
Microsoft Word - Two practical tasks covering all three Outcomes
Microsoft PowerPoint - Multiple Choice Test (closed book) and two practical tasks
Microsoft Excel - Multiple Choice Test (closed book) and two practical tasks
Final exam
No final exam.
Business and Administration
Higher Business
Description:
Business considers ways in which large organisations operate and the steps they take to achieve their goals.
Understanding Business –how large organisations in the private, public and third sectors operate, make decisions and pursue their strategic goals and analyse the impact that internal and external environments have on businesses.
Management of marketing - the importance of effective marketing systems to large organisations and procedures used by organisations to improve competitiveness and customer satisfaction.
Management of operations - the importance of effective operations systems to large organisations and procedures used by organisations to improve and/or maintain quality, and the importance of satisfying both internal and external customers’ needs.
Management of people - issues that large organisations face when managing people and procedures used by organisations when dealing with staff, including retention, training, leadership and motivation.
Management of finance - issues that large organisations face when managing finance and procedures used by organisations in financial situations.
Entry Requirement
Pass at C or above at National 5 Business.
Assessment
You will be assessed throughout the course using exam-style questions which will be completed after each unit mentioned in the description.
You will complete an assignment which you will choose a topic to research, analyse information and produce a business report your findings, detailing the appropriate conclusions and/or your recommendations. This is worth 30 marks and will be marked externally by SQA, but completed within class time.
Final Exam
The final exam will be a question paper – worth 90 marks (consisting of two sections: section 1 which is a Case study and questions, worth 30 marks, and section 2 section 2 is questions relating to any unit (mentioned in description), worth 60 marks.
Higher Administration & IT
Description
Administrative Theory & Practice: You will be able to deepen their skills and knowledge of time and task management strategies. You will also be able to describe and explain characteristics of effective teams, workplace legislation and how modern IT has had an impact on working practices. This unit will also provide learners with a sound understanding of good customer care and the consequences of bad customer care.
IT Solutions for Administrators: You will tackle complex functions and formulae that can be used in spreadsheets and learn how to manipulate information to aid analysis in the form of charts and graphs. You will know how to create relationships in databases and manipulate the information using advanced functions. You will then turn this information into detailed forms and reports. You will also know how to use complex functions in word processing applications to edit large documents and to import, export and merge data from other software applications into the word document.
Communication in Administration: You will gain a better understanding of different methods of communication and when it is most appropriate to use them. You will be able to identify potential barriers to communication and what can be done to overcome them. This unit also shows how information should be managed efficiently, while maintaining its security and confidentiality.
