S3 Chosen Religious, Moral and Philosophical Studies
Description
This course gives you the opportunity to investigate and understand areas of religion and moral issues. It helps you to reflect on your own life experiences and develop your personal beliefs and values. In addition you will gain knowledge and understanding of the different beliefs and values of others and the ability to express your opinions and give informed comments.

Religious and Philosophical Questions : Existence of God
I am whole - Mental Health unit
Research Project: Pupil have an open choice of religious, moral or philosophical issue to write about
Assessment
The level 3 course will consist of three end of unit assessments, focusing on the knowledge content, evaluation and analysis skills the pupils have gained. There will also be a Research Project towards the end of the course that pupils will prepare and present. The assessment elements will mirror the Nat 4/5 assessments in both style and content in order to prepare the pupils for the next session.

Description
Geography aims to increase your knowledge and understanding of the physical and human environment around you. In S3 you will build on the skills you began to develop in S1 and S2 in Social Subjects.

You will be given a class assessment at the end of each unit. These will focus on the skills needed to progress into National 4 and 5. These include knowledge and understanding, as well as source-based and map skill questions.
S3 History
Description
History is the study of past events and aims to increase your knowledge and understanding of past events and their impact on the present. In S3 you will build on the skills you began to develop in S1 and S2 in Social Subjects.

Assessment
You will be given a class assessment at the end of each unit. These will focus on the skills needed to progress into National 4 and 5. These include knowledge and understanding, as well as source-based questions. All pupils will also be expected to complete individual research projects on an area of History of their choice.
S3 Modern Studies
Description
Modern Studies aims to add to your knowledge and understanding of current political and Social issues in Scotland, the UK and around the world. In S3 you will build on the skills you began to develop in S1 and S2 in Social Subjects.
What will I study?
Pressure groups and the Media :
This topic looks at the ways in which people can influence the Government to make decisions.
Social issues in the UK
This topic looks at issues facing people in the UK today including social inequality, poverty and crime and Law.
USA
This topic looks at current issues facing the USA including crime, inequality and politics.
Assessment
You will be given an assessment at the end of each unit. These will focus on building up your confidence in answering National level skills that you will do in S4 Modern Studies. These include knowledge and understanding, as well as source-based questions. At the end of the S3 course you will complete an AVU which is a research project on an area of your choice that is linked to Modern Studies.
