PC Passport
PC Passport Level 5
Course Description
The NPA PC Passport at SCQF level 5 (National 5) provides pupils with up-to-date knowledge and skills in a range of popular IT software, such as Office 365. Learners will improve skills in key areas such as word processing, spreadsheets and presentation software, preparing them for employment and further study.
This qualification will offer you many opportunities to make progress, become successful, and create and collaborate using software services.
It is made up of three National Units:
Web Apps: Word Processing (Microsoft Word)
Web Apps: Spreadsheets (Microsoft Excel)
Web Apps: Presentations (Microsoft PowerPoint)
The level 5 covers the routine functions of these packages. The knowledge and skills which you develop as you progress through the qualification will be useful all along your education; they are highly valued by employers and will help you progress your career in whatever path you pursue.
Entry requirements
No qualifications required.
Assessment
All three units must be completed to gain the qualification.
Microsoft Word - Two practical tasks covering all three Outcomes
Microsoft PowerPoint - Multiple Choice Test (closed book) and two practical tasks
Microsoft Excel - Multiple Choice Test (closed book) and two practical tasks
Final exam
No final exam.
Business and Administration
N4/5 Business
Description:
Business considers ways in which organisations operate and the steps they take to achieve their goals
Units covered:
Understanding business – types of businesses, impacts of internal and external environments, stakeholders in a business.
Management of marketing – importance of effective marketing systems, how businesses maintain competitive and provide customer satisfaction.
Management of operations – processes and procedures to make a product and maintain quality. Effective management of suppliers, inventory, production and ethics.
Management of people – processes of managing employees, training and employee satisfaction.
Management of finance – Effective ways to manage finance and identifying and solving financial problems in a business.
Entry Requirement
Preferably completion of S3 Business
Assessment
National 5
You will be assessed throughout the course using exam-style questions which will be completed after each unit mentioned in the description.
You will complete an assignment which be produced as a business report. This is worth 30 marks and will be marked externally by SQA, but completed within class time.
National 4
Internally assessed by class teacher on passing N4 outcomes in 4 units (Business in Action, Influences on Business and AVU)
Units
We also offer unit outcomes at level 5 for pupils who may not perform well in the final exam. This ensures that they obtain some qualifications from the course.
Final Exam
There will be a National 5 final exam question paper – worth 90 marks consisting of two sections, section 1 will be two case studies with questions, worth 40 marks and section 2 is questions relating to any unit (mentioned in description) and is worth 50 marks
National 4/5 - Administration & IT
Description
This course develops real life skills that are essential in every workplace through learning a range of theory and practical activities relevant to the world of work. Coursework will involve you learning to gather information and use technology to prepare, present and communicate your findings effectively and professionally.
Administrative Practices Unit: You will develop an understanding of key legislation affecting both organisations and employees, the benefits to organisations of good customer care and the skills, qualities and attributes required of administrators.
IT Solutions for Administration Unit: You will develop skills in IT, problem solving and organising and managing information to complete business tasks. You will use IT applications to create and edit business documents and you will undertake organisational tasks that would be required to support small scale projects and events.
Communication in Administration Unit: You will use IT for gathering and sharing information with others in administration-related contexts. You will develop an understanding of what is a reliable source of information and be able to identify and use the most appropriate methods for gathering information.

Design and Technologies
National 4/5 Practical Woodworking
Description:
This course will build skills and knowledge of all thing’s woodworking. The course is mainly practical and based in the workshop but 30% of the course assessment is a theory-based exam.

Entry Requirement
Pupils must have a clean record of safely conducting themselves in the school as safety is imperative in this course. It is preferred that the pupil has successfully completed S3 Practical Craft Skills.
Assessment
Pupils will carry out the three units of work which are stated above. They will then complete a practical course assignment which is worth 70% of their overall grade. This will be paired up with the exam result which will be worth 30% to give the pupil an overall grade.
Final Exam
The final exam is a 60-mark paper which should be completed in 60 minutes.
National 4/5 Practical Metalworking
Description:
This course will build skills and knowledge of all things metalworking. The course is mainly practical and based in the workshop but 30% of the course assessment is a theory-based exam.

National 4/5 Graphic Communication
Description:
This course will build skills and knowledge of all things Graphic Communication. The course will contain a series of tasks which will fall under preliminary, production or promotional graphics. The tasks will vary from manual sketching and rendering to computer aided design (CAD) on software packages such as Autodesk Inventor and Adobe Photoshop.

3D Unit (contains four assessment tasks)
Entry Requirement
Pupils should have completed the S3 Graphic Communication course in order to have good foundation skills and knowledge to build on for the National 4/5 course.
Assessment
Pupils will carry out the two units of work which are stated above. They will then complete a practical course assignment which is worth 34% of their overall grade. This will be paired up with the exam result which will be worth 66% to give the pupil an overall grade.
Final Exam
The final exam is a 80-mark paper which should be completed in 120 minutes.
