Art and Design NPA Level 5
Description
The aim of the National Progression Award in Art and Design at level 5 is to provide a structured award that creates opportunities for candidates to gain practical and theoretical knowledge and understanding of a range of printmaking, mixed media and illustration skills and techniques for art and design applications.

None.
Assessment
The course is made up of three internally assessed units of work and will suit those interested in a career in the creative industries.
Photography NPA Level 5
Description
Covering and developing your skills in taking photographs surrounding portraiture, landscape, and studio photography. This course will introduce pupils to the manual controls of a DSLR camera and give the experience of researching, making, and presenting their photographs. This course is SQA-certified and will allow you to proceed to the next level of qualification in photography, such as the Foundation Photography programme at college.
Entry Requirement
None
Assessment
No end of year assessment. Course work is marked throughout the year in units. Requirements to pass the course is enough evidence in both units (Landscapes and portraiture). Additional understanding of the terminology is required.
Final Exam
There is no final exam for NPA pupils.
Higher Art and Design
Description
A combination of investigative and practical learning with knowledge and understanding of art and design practice developing a range of art and design techniques and complex problem-solving skills.
The course has two areas of study:
Expressive
Design
Entry Requirement
Should have achieved N5 Art and Design
Assessment
Component 2: Expressive portfolio
Component 3: Design portfolio
These are completed within class and sent away to the SQA and go towards your final grade
Final Exam
A question paper worth 60 marks with 2 hours to complete.
Advanced Higher Art
Description
The Advanced Higher Course is intended to promote greater autonomy and candidates are expected to be highly self-motivated. Practical work commences in June and pupils should use this time to select either Expressive or Design and consider at least two inspirational artists or designers. The choice of theme is crucial to success as this will ultimately provide the impetus and development of the portfolio.
Entry Requirement
The preferred level of entry to Advanced Higher Art & Design is an A or B pass at Higher level.
Assessment
Portfolio – 100 marks
The Portfolio consists of a Practical folio worth 64 marks, a written study, the Contextual Analysis worth 30 marks and an Evaluation worth 6 marks
Practical Folio
Candidates complete a portfolio in either Design or Expressive, worth 64% of the overall grade.
Contextual Analysis
The contextual analysis should complement the practical folio and focus on closely related design work(s) for Design or artwork (s) for Expressive. This study is limited to 2000 words and is worth 30% of the overall grade.
Evaluation
Candidates complete their reflective evaluations using the SQA template. The evaluation is worth 6%

There is no final exam.
